Currently Admins are offering one username change per user. This is mainly to allow members to find their "mermaid name" after they have already joined the site, although you do not have to use your one username change for that particular reason.

I don't know if people realize, but you can only change your name once.

Yeah. Would you like your name to be Mermaid-Crystal? You could also use a space and make it Mermaid Crystal, or make it something totally unrelated to your current name.

Well its really one admin who is typically active -Iona. There had been talks of Mods which I know she supported but the other Admin is only on rarely and I guess didn't approve that idea yet

Also I think we've discussed a few times that the standard on most forums is 1 name change for free and then all others after that are charged a small fee. That way it discourages people from changing their name too frequently but if they do, a little bit of money goes into operating costs.

Either way, I know Iona isnt around right now and she usually gets saddled with doing a majority of the house keeping stuff here on the forum. If you're desperate for a name change, go bug the other admin and send a PM or something ;)

With respect to installing a script to tell people if a name is already taken, while that would be useful I'm not sure about how to implement that. Users get one free name change. Our policy is now that if a user wants another name change after their first is used, that they can still have one more. You just have to do one of the following- 1) greet 20 new users in the Introductions section (http://mernetwork.com/index/forumdisplay.php?7-Introduce-Yourself) of the forum (this can take some time depending on how many users are joining) or 2) Make a small donation to MerNetwork (https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=YFP4TR8HSAT6U) (over $1 otherwise it all gets eaten up by PayPal fees). When you've done either of those two, PM an admin.

In case anyone is ever interested, "Sirena" is the Spanish word for mermaid. I'm just posting because of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie and the Mako Mermaids's characters. I know some people spell it Syrena or Serena.

Guys I think you're missing it here, no member can give you the authority to change your name. You put a request here and when an admin gets to it they change the names all in a batch and you get ONE for free. So you don't change your stuff, the admin does.
