Okay, so being one of the few canadians here I feel like it's my duty to introduce you to awesome canadian music. Some of you will know because it's FINALLY getting big in the rest of the world, others will be totally new even though here they've been around for years. I encourage you to check out some of these videos/songs and let me know what you think! These are all sorts of styles so if you listen to a few seconds of one and don't like it, try the next!!!

This is Feist, I love this music video. Floating guitar for the win. I saw her live and she's amazing. I really love her style, and I know she got big in the states too.

This is Sloan, a local band. So local my stepmom grew up with them. This song is about how the lead singer broke up the marriage of Feist and her former husband. It's an epic song for someone who's ever been in the bad situation of being the other woman or other man. It's a mellow song too but they can be heavy....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXJ9UoQCY5s
I just put two in there in case you like heavier stuff...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgaCHmxmeUo
Finger 11 got big in the states with this song, I've hung out with these guys when I was like barley a teen and they kick so much butt. They've been around FOREVER heavier music. This one is dancier but if you like metal check out their older stuff...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8qYbtRVNno
Alexisonfire... SCREAMO they are huge here, I saw a show once and the moshpit was INSANE ... you may not know them but you may know their singer....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xiq0IiGilXE
City and colour! That's alexisonfire's singer Dallas Green (get it? City and colour? Bahaha) he's featuring Gordon Downie... anyone 40+ probably knows Gordie from this band coming up...

There's a lot of good rocky and soft rock songs from The Hip as we call them. They're classic rock even though they're still making music. But they make me think of...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3V5HZNr6saE
Please tell me you know OLP? They were Canada's answer to a certain infinite sadness ;) rocky stuff again.

I know Joel, he's from my city. Cant help love him he wrote me a song. Now, this song is weird because it's all about Halifax where I live so you probably wont get it... but check out some of his other stuff if this one doesn't get you bopping. He's got great ballads, great folks, beautiful and smart stuff.

Buck 65 is another guy I met. He's like, emo rap? Actually he's a beatnic poet who basically recites to music he's written. Most of his tracks are like 20 minutes long. Really cool and smart guy, even if this one isnt your type check out another of his songs he's cool. (he's also the guy dancing around in Feist's song "One Evening")

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhTSfOZUNLo
You better know these guys. They've been around FOREVER and they did The Big Bang Theory theme song, and you should hear this whole song it's awesome!

Classified is from my city too (and my city aint big so we all meet him! lol) he did this song for Canada, and it spoofs "Canadian Heritage Moments" (check that on youtube they are cool) anyway, he's a rapper. I dont usually like rap, but I like him and I can't help but be all patriotic and love this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRlzM4a1ll0
K-os had a few big hits that might have gotten to your airwaves like crab bucket but this is my favourite song. 4,3,2,1 what we fighting 4? Any song that reps Johny Depp is cool in my books.

Lights is completley self invented and produced. She does EVERYTHING she even did her own music videos totally by herself until recently in her bedroom! total internet sensation. This is my fav song but there are some trippy videos out there.

Oh we are so much more than Beebs! UGH. The US gave us Miley Cyrus, so we replied with Justin Beiber, and adults across the nations wept at the state of music.

Ahhhh, OLP was my fav back when I was an emo teen...still love 'em!

I have a couple to add:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0neWyLglB5U&feature=related
When I Get Grown by Treelines. They're from Kelowna and are completely amazing. I love everything they've done.
This song makes me want to name my future children after hockey players :)

Please tell me you know OLP? They were Canada's answer to a certain infinite sadness ;) rocky stuff again.Yup, OLP was one of my favorite bands in college. They were supposed to come play at my school but the drummer got bronchitis and they had to cancel, and I was sad. Would have been my first live show, I think.

The Agonist: Excellent Canadian metal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pZo4bOZf3B4
Here's their cover of Dark Tranquility's 'Monochromatic Stains', which is excellent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJnjWwHUazw

Anvil. Poor Anvil. They just couldn't win. Subject of a fairly depressing documentary in 2008, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", which fortunately helped them back into the spotlight.

What about Loreena McKennitt? She's from Toronto, I believe. I listen to her just about every day.

My daughter's going to marry an Australian. The Commonwealth countries are kinda popular in my household.
