In interviews some of the mermaids said they were neoprene but then the newspaper clipping says rubber? If it were rubber could it actually have a zipper in the back?

The fluke looks to me like the way neoprene behaves. It's shiny, but I'm guessing it's because they were just in the water.
From what we can see the seams look nice.
Where is this from?

Neoprene is rubber. :| Wetsuits with color on it usually have fabric on top of the rubber (backing).

Neoprene or polychloroprene is a family of synthetic rubbers that are produced by polymerization of chloroprene. Neoprene in general has good chemical stability, and maintains flexibility over a wide temperature range. It is used in a wide variety of applications, such as laptop sleeves, orthopedic braces (wrist, knee, etc.), electrical insulation, liquid and sheet applied elastomeric membranes or flashings, and automotive fan belts.
A foamed neoprene containing gas cells is used as an insulation material, most notably in wetsuits. Foamed neoprene is also used in other insulation and shock-protection (packing) applications.

These are pictures from the mermaid tryouts for when they had mermaids for a short period of time at Disneyland back in the sixties (I think?)

Yes they are :) They are the mermaids from the Submarine Voyage ride. They had live mermaids from 1959-1966. I really love the 1960s green tails! They even had little matching tops 3395

Why do I never stumble across something like this when I'm forced to go to a swimming pool?
