Hi everyone!
So a while back I was reading/collecting a really awesome comic series called Fathom. It was all about a race of people/creatures who lived underwater- and although there wasn't exactly mermaids it was a huge inspiration for me! Has anyone else read this series? What were you're thoughts on it? :D

On this note, does anyone know any other really good comic/manga series which draws great mermaid or ocean inspiration? I'd love to see all art styles and stories! :D

I have read Fathom (almost all of it, and all the spinoffs, actually). Along with Soulfire (and Shrugged, and Iron and the Maiden, and Ekos, if they ever print it), by the same company, it is a brilliant piece of art and story ideas.

The new Aquaman series is also pretty good, and the Namor comics for Marvels Tsunami imprint were sorta unspecified in the timeline and possibly non-canon, but were interesting and topical (though not as good as Tsunami's Mystique, Jubilee, Rogue, Inhumans, and New Mutants comics). Oh, and although it is more of an ensemble cast comic and doesn't focus on her much, in the later issues of Top10 (about a police force for a city where the general population consists entirely of superheroes), there is an officer named Jenny who appears to be a mermaid and expresses difficulty getting around (eventually she uses a Legion flight ring). Marvel had a character called Mermaid who briefly appeared in an alternate reality. She appeared to have a mermaid tail and the ability to fly.

There are a couple mermaid manga and one or two yaoi that I know of, actually, though the latter tend to have waterbreathing humans (and intelligent giant clams in one of them).

Wow! That looks like an awesome cover o_O
Looks really sexy too xD

I remember an orca-mermaid manga sort of thing I read a quick page or two from.
I think it was featured in some sort of manga because I never got to see it again

After a quick google I found the cover of it, apparently it's called Sea Princess Azuri?

My Bride is a Mermaid/Seto no Hanayome - is currently not available but I'm sure there are translations online. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/01/Seto_no_Hanayome_volume_1_cover.jpg

As for Sea Princess Azuri there was only 2 volumes produced by Tokyopop. The artists DA account is here:

That is all I can think of for now.

I've been lucky enough to read Sea Princess Azuri! Its a really sweet comic and really original design! I wish they published more ><; Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi is adorable too!
LOL- I had no idea Animaniacs had comics! XD

I think I will look into Grimm Fairy Tales- I'm pretty sure my local comic shops stock them! I did not know they had proper stories on mermaids! :D

So these comics/ manga feature more animalistic characters in them, but they do have merfolk, or sea creatures as the main characters in them too. I am currently reading the webcomic and it's really good, but I do not own the manga, and I was unable to find the entire thing online.

there is also another one that goes by Mermaid's scar, but i'm not sure if it's the same manga and anime under a different name or another season of mermaid's forest.
