European Mermaid Meeting '12

Hi, underwater friends,

Since a few days there's something knocking in my head. A tiny voice who said: 'okay, you're a mermaid for many years, did a lot of promotions, demonstrations and television - and now it's time to meet your underwater friends'

In other words: I want to organize an European Mermaid Meeting! Meet, dive, and have a lot of fun!

First question: where? In the Mediterranian Sea? In a 10 meter deep swimming pool with wracks and rocks? Or in a tropical paradise with a pool? Maybe in my own pool here in Beverwijk / Holland?

When? September? Later or sooner?

Please tell me what you think about my tiny voice.... ;-)

That sounds like fun, as I'm the only mermaid in Rotterdam at the moment.

I think we should find an accessible place for everybody as we seem kinda scattered over Europe.

Yes, that's right. There is a great diving pool in Rheinbach, Germany. If I take a map of Europe, it's a bit in the middle of Europe. That diving pool is 10 meters in depth, 28 degrees, but you has to be certificated if you want to dive in it...

Another pool is in Antwerpen. It is a kind of a 'rent an island' pool: we can hire an island for several hours. Water is 1,40 deep, but with a lot of chlorine in it. It will be a good place fot some photo's underwater...

The third option is a 5,5 meter deep pool, also in Antwerpen, Belgium. Water is 31 degrees. I will call them tomorrow about facilities, prices and more.

Anybody other ideas or locations?

In the meantime I'd contacted HDE. It is a divingpool of 6 meters in depth, pool itself is 6 x 12 meters. No tiles at the wall - it is like a small Monte Mare. In the wall there is a mirror and at the other side a underwater window.

Hi, Toxotes,

As in many indoor diving locations you need a kind of certification. But don't worry if you are diving without: under supervision of an instructor you are welcome. Propably Vicky or myself.

There is no certification system for mermaiding. Yes, I'm the owner of a Mermaid Academy, and yes it is possible to get a freedive-certification after a course - but I realize for most of us it is a big step too far.

I have a great idea! ;-) What about the Tropical Island Paradise near Berlin?? I've always wanted to go there!!

Okay, there are lots of people there, but a lot of mermaids would sure be an attraction, maybe one could make an arrangement with the manager...to have some space swimming.

Well, in Germany I understand, there's an event of mermaids near by Berlin. If you said a big group, 1000 mermaids is a big group. Not the same location as Seenixe suggested, but it will be held in an tropical paradise. But... perhaps 1000 mermaids is too much.

I spoke with my mermaidsister Vicky about this event. Shall we go or... not? Diving like a mermaid is our passion, finding the ultimate relaxation below the waterline. We decided to switch over to another location for us: Monte Mare. Not a big pool, but for two mermaids and our safetydiver it's big enough. I like the depth of 10 meters, warm water, and some nice attributes the the bottom.

About the EMM. Location? Big groups or not? Deep water or shallow? Tropical swimmingpools or a divingtower? A lot of questions, and for me it is very difficult to makes everyone happy... ;-)

oooooohh!!!! I would love to come to a mermaid meet up! I think Septemeber is a little too early... And I have a few mer friends who would come as well :D The pool in Antwerpen looks really nice, Not too shallow or deep and great for photos, the Nemo one looks depressing and scary ahahaha How many months more would you be willing to postpone it?

Saturday 29th September? Unfortunately I'm flying to Bristol n Bath although without a tail yet I would be odd one out. Although it would be nice to meet some people and learn more techniques.

I can't because I made it so that I can't remove the monofin from my tail and I only have one, besides, I made the tail so I could swim in it :-p.

Well...this year meeting was cancelled but we can always organize another meeting! :)

Maybe this time, to be sure that a sufficent number of mermaids and merman will come, we can post in a discussion the periods in wich we are free to travel and where we come from, in this way we can decide the day and the location that best fit our needs.

Come on!I'm so happy thinking that I can swim with other mermaids that I can't wait!My tail will be ready for this summer so maybe our meeting qould be my first time in a real mermaid tail and I will have proper judges :) but more importantly I won't be alone, none of us will! :D

Yes, you're right. If we can find a time to get together it would be very wonderful. And it would be my first time I will be with other mermaids and mermen as well. Maybe, my first time being a mermaid.
