I went to http://shimmerbabymermaids.com/ (http://shimmerbabymermaids.com/) and saw some of the tails. I was totally blown away! I absolutely LOVE the translucent fluke's. They look so realistic! I'm super interested in buying one..Idc what the price is..As long as its not over 10k xD But idk if she makes/sells them or not.. It says under "services" that there are custom tails, but all the children's tails that I have seen are fabric..? Though it would make sense to make children tails out of fabric.. But im still very confused and anxious to know more about these tails. I saw on fb that she said the tails in the pictures werent for sale, but still wasn't specific if she made tails like them or not etc. Augh. I really wanna know. >.< I'd die to have a realistic tail like that..

some of them arent swimmable, and were used for ariel work (like, hanging from wires instead of swimming underwater)

that's kinda false advertising. she made it seem like she was making and selling the tails that show up in all her pictures
and I've never seen any of those tails anywhere so i assumed they were unique works of her own. she should really advertise herself more clearly

I think that's just a business move to get people more interested. Which has worked, cuz it got a lot of us interested. But yes I'm pretty sure they were made by studio kite who did the costumes for this commercial...

Yep, there's four zeros there... because they are "specially designed" and take over three months to make? Raven takes 6 months at least, and she only charges a few thousand.
I don't like questioning people without all the facts, but all of this just seems rather fishy to me.

actually, I believe those are (at least from the same company) if not the same commerical. I think that there was a LOT of wire work and (of course) all green-screen work, which is why I think they look so computer-y. I have seen pics of their tails from that actual commercial shoot!

Maybe that $20,000 is the cost for the studio that made the originals for the commercial. Maybe for that fee she would make one through that studio. Meaning she's just the middle man. Or maybe she said they were $20,000 to keep people away because she knows that it's a lot of money even for a tail.

JMBFX makes the H2O tails for $20,000 each. So her pricing isn't really off (but she doesn't make them anyhow).

I just went through her pics.....her "australia" tails were on tv, looks like she is from Sydney Australia like me......IF and i mean IF she does make the realistic tails i can honestly say that it would cost a fortune to make over here, materials can be so expansive and we have to buy online for things like latex or silicone and shipping can be a real killer.......for example, what would cost an american to make a normal simple fabric tail with a rapid monofin for between $100-$200 would cost us $300 and more depending on what particular material selected. When i bought my Hydra monofin it cost me more for shipping then the price of the monfin itself, its a real downer :(......that being said, i would not pay $20,000 for a tail and think that it is rather steep to ask people to pay a house deposit on something that will not and cannot last a life time.
I also think that her refusing to say if she uses latex or silicone is a bit fishy seeming that is a big deciding point to us Mer's ......

Yeah, refusing to give any information about the tails and charging 20K for them makes it seem like she is hoping no one will want to buy them, so no one will ask for more in-depth info about them, so she can keep people thinking that she made them because no one knows any better.
I mean I could very well be wrong here, but honestly the whole thing is just weird and suspicious.
And you're right Lunali, things are more expensive here, but surely not by a $15,000 margin! Even if she spends 100 hours making the tail, she's essentially asking for $150 an hour wage.

Melanie i completely agree with you......i would at MOST it would be an extra grand or two to make but there is no way it would cost an extra $15,00......it really does seem rather fishy and honestly we cant be sure that it isnt a pride thing that she wants other to think she made her own tail, because perhaps she feels "real mermaids make their own tails" or perhaps to get herself more publicity, still a little too fishy

The tails look old though, you can actually see then start to yellow near the end of the fluke.

They're made out of some sort of urethane. It goes yellow as it ages. I agree, I thought she was saying she makes those tails but it is totally false advertising -__-. They kind of look too much like a snake to me IMO. xD

Did she say she made them at some point? Those tails have been out there a while and I never remember them claiming to have made them...quite the opposite, it was always pretty clear she bought them from the production company.

she's on my friends list, she's very open about the fact she's bought ALL the tails, and they are available to rent, and she makes children's tails. She's never said anywhere that she sells the main ones she's had, or that she made them. She's always been very very clear, she just hasn't been always very active, since she's a mom of several children now. In the past photo she has done mermaid makeover photo shoots for people in her tails. She owns some dry tails too that were used in commercials etc

That's odd :/ In the past she was always really clear to people that she purchased them. Shimmer has always been so sweet and honest (I got to meet her in person and she was so lovely, as were her beautiful daughters). Then again she also got badgered constantly about who they were made by and how much they were, and could she contact those people and bargain with them to make more tails, and for a lower price, and on and on. I've seen people (fans) get very aggressive with her on her page and profile many times :( So maybe she just got fed up and just started saying that she made them and they're 20k so people would stop asking and being so pushy about it? It's not the right thing to do, but I guess I could understand her situation at least. Perhaps the better thing would be to make an FAQ on a note on her page and then just post the link whenever people ask. But make no mistake, the tails were extremely expensive for her to purchase from the studios.

Didn't she make the green tail and the children's tail in all those photos? Thom Shouse used to say a similar number for making his tails as well. But yeah, what Iona said. I had never ever seen her say that anywhere til now, and when I personally talked to her she never said she made them movie/tv/commercial ones. She'd been like that for years, I'm not sure why she'd suddenly change. So what Iona said, she's probably sick of people badgering her all the time. I noticed she withdrew from the community quite a bit after mercon, I think she was exhausted from the constant questions. Occasionally when people wont stop harassing me to make them a cheap tail, I just tell them how much they cost. I don't even make tails -_- I got 50 messages yesterday asking for one.

Yeah I can imagine it would get really exhausting after a while. Raven has clear notes with all her info in them and yet still you'll get multiple people a day asking how much her tails are. Even with clearly set out information, some people just don't quit!

She could also have very well made the green tail on the right. It doesn't look anything near the quality of the Mermaids tail, although it's very nice. Looks kind of like painted neoprene or something.

It really sucks that people are badgering her about it, but I hopes she stops telling people she made them- they're only going to badger her worse when they're confused :/
