So. Some of you knew this was happening, but I was featured in a prominent paper over my way! Now, I knew it was going to be happening since last September because I did the photoshoot for it WAY BACK THEN. The reason being our ocean is warmest at the end of summer, where it would be freezing by the time Id have to do the shots to be ready for this edition.
A few things... aren't what I expected. I worked really hard on the interview and was sort of upset to see certain things I didnt say (like I hated swimming as a kid! I didnt hate it, I was bad at it) and a LOT paraphrased, like cut up and pasted back so they look totally different from what I said. I guess it just goes to show, no matter how hard you work to make sure you come across a certain way- writers will make it come across the way they want! And Im kinda embarrassed they brought up underwater fetishes since the article mainly focuses on kids and I explained about that sort of not thinking they'd ever print it. >.> It's kind of negative at first- talks about the stalker I had last year and despite going into great detail about why no new teachers will be able to get a job it comes off like I just cant get one lol. (the education system cut a huge amount of teachers days before my graduation, they all get the positions subs would have gotten and new teachers cant teach again til next year and even then wont get much)
But! c'est la vi! I just gotta be happy I got the publicity :)
Because the photos were done last Fall I have the blond hair, and the old tail. The photographer did do a great job tho.
Here's how the cover looks:

(I'll get an actual decent photo later, this is a screen grab)

I'm sure most of you who know me well can pick out some of the things that are 'off'... I never 'hated' swimming as a kid, I just didn't know how to swim. lol. And like many of you Splash was my big inspiration, not Ariel. The stalker wasnt a mermaid hater... on the opposite he was a mermaid obsesser! I also didnt say Disney is responsible for the current pop culture mermaid stuff @_@ I explained how people have a view of mermaids that is Ariel and they dont know the original story and a lot of recent pop culture reference focus more on the real story.
But I guess now everyone knows my fall plans! I am hoping to be accepted for an internship that would see me going to Honduras to teach, promote literacy, and be a mermaid. It's not the group that wanted me, though they do want me now, it was a prof I had who got me into the whole thing who represented the group. I think some things got mixed up there in the article >.> but yeah, I'd be gone for 8 months, changing my whole life around, leaving friends, family, and boyfriend, to really live what I want Raina to be. So terrified and excited at the same time :)
