Hello, i was just wonerdering is it if possible to have a monofin with a translucent fluke. I might have to get plexiglass and make my own, so any tips on that would help too. Could i use a finis monofin with it?Thanks!

i dont think you can use plexiglass for monofins... maybe youre thinking of fiberglass? i dont know if fiberglass is translucent, but it might be.
i know that a few people have made monofins from polycarbonate (i might be wrong, id find the threads where it was mentioned, but i cant right now), one person in particular being mermaid parties (:
ive never seen a finis monofin that was translucent, so that probably wouldnt work if youre going for that look.

lexan is a good clear monofin material its the same stuff Mermaid parties and i believe mermagica uses..

For making a translucent fluke, use lexan or polycarbonate. Plexiglass is not strong enough.

Or you can do like the JMB FX studios make the first h2o tails : a strong plate and a fluke entirely in silicone (i've already seen this in a lot of Tails for movies and itappears it works very well !)

NEVER use plexi glass. And I mean NEVER .plexi can not withstand the stress underwater and would snap like a twig. if you are going to make a monofin use lexan but you my want it thin. I made one and it is 9/32 thick. You can get it a little thinner but i wouldn't go very much thinner than what I have.3697

Where we're you able to purchase lexan? And is there any tutorial that you could tell me on how to make a monofin like yours? (if that's okay with you)

I found lexan at my local Lowes. You might have to ask around before an employee knows what you're talking about.

how did you guys cut your lexan? Intricate shapes are not easy in materials like this... what did you guys use?

I used a jigsaw and then trimmed it up with a dremel and a sanding wheel.

Mine is fiberglass it's opaque when dry but transparent in the water.

I bought my lexan at our local truevalue hardware store. I made that monofin out of a 18 inch by 24 inch sheet and the price was about $16.00. When I cut it I used a scroll saw with the blade turned sideways so the monofin would fit when cutting.

what kind of bolts or screw do you guys recommend to pins the swins fins to the lexan?
