Anyone here follow the work of Aquarius Reef Base? The world's only undersea laboratory.

http://aquarius.uncw.edu/

You can see them on http://www.ustream.tv/aquariusreefbase

Their site says:
Aquarius is an underwater ocean laboratory located in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (http://floridakeys.noaa.gov/). The laboratory is deployed three and half miles offshore, at a depth of 60 feet, next to spectacular coral reefs. Scientists live in Aquarius during ten–day missions using saturation diving (http://aquarius.uncw.edu/saturation.htm) to study and explore our coastal ocean. Aquarius is owned by NOAA (http://www.noaa.gov/) and is operated by the University of North Carolina Wilmington (http://www.uncw.edu/).

I don't understand why there aren't more underwater structures. People love that kind of thing. Has anyone seen/read Sphere, by Michael Chriton, where they're in an underwater base? Sounds awesome.

Maybe because of Bioshock, haha.

perhaps because the Poseidon Undersea Resort (http://www.poseidonresorts.com/) costs $15,000 per person for a weeklong stay? ;)
