So since my fundraising for a raven tail is failing miserably, :( figured I'd try my hand at a neoprene sequin tail. I just have a few questions before I go ahead and buy the neoprene.

When a website refers to the thickness of the sheet, are they talking about the rubber itself, or the rubber along with the two nylon sheets that cover it as well?

And question 2; what thickness do you guys prefer for a neoprene tail? I just want to know what's most common so I can feel confident in my purchase. :) I think I'm going to be buying my neoprene from foamorder.com, because its the easiest to navigate and pick what I need.

I bought 3mm for my latex tail and it was waaaay too thick, go with a 2mm or 1.5.
The fabric they use to cover the neoprene is paper thin so its the measurement on the entire fabric as a whole.

Is it a literal millimeter? Because with how small a millimeter is, its hard to imagine 3 of them being too thick. -shrug- I think your tail looks nice anyways. :)

I was considering buying 1.5mm because my mom's sewing machine is around 15 years old. Maybe more, she's had it ever since I can remember, and I'm 19, so I wanted something thin to go easy on it. I can't sew by hand to save my life, we don't have a manual old fashioned one, and no way would my parents be up for getting a new machine just so I could sew a tail. lol

I got 2mm for my second tail and I was able to sew that. Just make sure you good strong threads to sew with

I wish I had a local fabric store that carried neoprene in different thicknesses so I could better determine which one I should use. I suppose 2mm would be good thickness because it's right in between the thicknesses in question. I wonder if Marine General carries neoprene by the bolt. I don't remember seeing any that wasn't made into a wetsuit though...hmm

You can ask for samples from online fabric stores :)
