View Full Version : Like a Fish out of Water...
I am totally out of my element here with the crafty's....but I'm trying.
Last week, I made my very first mermaid top, and I'm quite pleased with how it came out!
This morning...I made my first necklace.
Sadly, it's back to the drawing board on my belt....a week of trying different theories, everything failed, and I'm back to the drawing board. Ordered a thicker netting like the ones I've seen on here...even though it's not what I wanted. Apparently the materials i wanted to use just won't work. So I cave.
But yay! 2 new pieces for my mer-drobe..and a 2nd top started underway last night. :)

yea...i wanted something more simple for jewelry because i'm not really a jewelry wearer(1), and (2) as you can see, I have dermals on my chest....and on the back of my neck...so necklaces tend to get caught. I have my own mer style I guess...I like the more elegant designs. :D

Your top is just lovely! I like how you covered the majority of the bottom of the bra with those little white discs. They're cute and frame nicely. :)
yay! yes. i made a second top...finished it yesterday..
not as intricate as the first...but this one i won't care swimming around in. :D it's much more durable.
my belt progree so far. finally made a design that works. and a clasp mechanism that is just down right amazing. so long as the net doesn't stretch too much and start slipping off.

well...i'm designing 2 more tops. :D obsessed much? i think so. i'll post them here when i get to them. and i'll also have my tail from mermaid parties to post a thread about and write a review. i already got a top from her that is just awe inspiring. so i'm beyond anxious to slip my tail on for the first time.

Update:
added to my belt tonight. yes more. some rhinestones on a couple shells. 3 more shells. some random beading. looks pretty epic if i do say so myself. thinking of using it for my photoshoot in canada on monday.
finished 2 hair clips. they are posted in my mer-drobe album.
also did this to a hand mirror i acquired. it's going to be a prop for another event i have coming up. have more to do to it yet, but this was a good first days work.

I have looked at all types of accessories for mermaids but I have never seen one for a merman. Now don't get me wrong, everything is beautiful that I have seen but nothing for men. Why is that?
because merman are only fairly recently becoming more popular i'd imagine...
plus guys don't have to cover up top like merfem's do.
and traditionally, mermaids are suppose to be a bit vein....which is why i like the mirror prop idea.
even belts are only recently becoming the big boom. i'm sure you can make a more masculine version of a belt.
or you can make wrist cuffs...i've seen stuff like that. or a trident. or a crown. or gloves.
ahh!! more supplies came and almost nothing is the size it was suppose to be. this top...going straight to the mertender. she'll love it. but i'm maybe a b and she's a double d. there is no way these were made for my size.
swooot!! the heating totally worked. now i have velcro drying on my fish butt....so i can easily remove the fin for easier drying and easier taking the fin on and off since i had sizing issues. that way i can randomly restretch it as needed between events. :D i think i'll go add to my mirror now.

I adore your sequin blue/green top! It's so shiny and the circles give a nice scale effect. Where did you buy the netting you used for the belt?

Guessing because it is the ladies posting :) I make jewelry and chain/scale maille so if you want tips or tricks...or something custom just hit me up.
