I went mermaiding yesterday, and there wasn't any water in sight! ;) I sat on the couch in my tail and closed my eyes and relaxed while listening to a CD of wave and seagull sounds. It was an amazing experience that I encourage you all to try.

I love doing things like this, it's so relaxing. I actually have found that my very best mermaiding experiences haven't been in the water - they've been in my thoughts as I was listening to music or in my dreams. I have also slipped on my tail to watch H20 or other movies and that's been really fun too. :p

I do this when I meditate! I love it, it is so relaxing and renewing! :)

until i get my "real" tail....i'm restricted to "pretending". notice my quote/unquotes? haha
i feel like i'm a mermaid always, regardless. which is why a long time ago i had one tattooed huge on a very visible spot so i always have a visible mermaid with me.
i currently have a claw foot tub out on my back lawn...(which terrified my husband because apparently i am so free spirited he actually thought i had acquired it to lounge and bathe in the yard hahaha)
and i like to walk the river in silence and just admire.

Try Diane Arkenstone's Aquaria (http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/aquaria-liquid-blue-transecape/id99149376) album. Pure undersea goodness.

I accidentally think I got high one day when I was laying in bed listening to I Am A Lazer by Bassnectar. I was imagining soaring over a river between two tree covered mountains and when the eagle cried I couldn't stop smiling and my face got all tingly and I felt like I was floating. Best experience ever. I haven't been able to get this effect again, but I hope to find a song that makes me imagine mermaids so I can try it again.

I watched episodes of H2O in my mermaid tail yesterday. My mom walked in and saw me that way, and then told me that she thinks I am obsessed with mermaids. Which I totally am. :p

I've done that at night on my couch.

Here's a worthwhile investment: Laser Star Projector (http://www.amazon.com/HPI-5105-Laser-Star/dp/B000VBNIP2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342985122&sr=8-1&keywords=laser+star+projector)

If you have a shower with glass walls, set this up so it shines on the glass. Turn off the rest of the lights. It's like swimming in a sea of bioluminescence.

I've gotten more serious about mer-meditation, trying to do it at least a couple times per week. When I mer-meditate, sometimes I pray, sometimes I just sit back and relax, and sometimes I do leg left exercises, in or out of my tail. I like to think about how important the ocean is to me, as I personally believe it to be where life began and I pray for strength to do by best to honor Mother Ocean in any way I can. Sometimes I meditate in the bathtub and do leg lifts as I listen there(not in the tail, mind you).

It's very simple. Just relax in your tail and listen to ocean sounds

If you want to take the healing and meditation process a touch farther, try the following images in your mind, not in any particular order.
Imagine that you are part of the ocean, as water. Use deep yoga breaths that sound like the movement of water over sand, and imagine that you just are liquid.
Imagine that you are seaweed or kelp, waving in the movement of the ocean, taking in that sparkling sunlight through the ocean's kind filter.
Imagine that you are a dolphin or a whale, swimming with your pod. Feel the joy and the freedom they feel bursting in and out of the waves or swimming down deep to get a closer look at one of the sea's million curiosities.
Imagine that you are a gull, flying low over the surface of the water, occasionally diving in to take a better peek at some of your finny friends.

I like using visuals like these, as they keep my mind in meditation mode, and prevent it from wandering to my problems of the day.

Oh cool Dottie, thanks! What about imagining I'm a mermaid as part of that?

Mer-meditation sounds like a really cool idea. I've never had much success with meditation (too much stuff whizzing through my mind!), but I do love meditative music.

I don't know if you've heard of Julianna Barwick, but her music is the closest thing to what I imagine a mermaid song to be. She composes all of her songs using layered samples of her voice. No other instrument but herself. It's other-worldly.

Really, listen. (http://soundcloud.com/felixnicklas/julianna-barwick-never-change) Sorry I can't embed the song to make it easier, but trust me, the click is worth it!

David and Diane were married, for a time. They released some music together, and some separately. And yes, David's Atlantis album, especially the last song, is great!

Any more visualization ideas?

Princess, I think the idea is less to visualize yourself as a mermaid and more to focus on surrendering the sense of self and uniting with the environment. That said, something you might consider is thinking of yourself as a mermaid who is singing... and then becoming the song, vibrating and echoing through the water, air, rocks, ears of living creatures, etc.

These are wonderful ideas! I've done it many times, often with a fan gently blowing over me. I usually do these visualizations while swimming laps underwater, too. Please keep the musical suggestions coming!

There are loads of suggestions in This Thread (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?86-Mermaid-Music). I posted selections from both David and Diane Arkenstone in My Response (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?86-Mermaid-Music&p=28343&viewfull=1#post28343).

Heehee! I thought that was a given. I agree. Mermaids with dolphins or whales.... or a mermaid who can turn into water. ^_^
