What marine animal would you have as your mermaid/merman companion? Fish, dolphin, shark?

Hippocamp

weedy dragon seahorses!

Seconded! :) Did you see my post (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?2143-A-fish-a-day&p=30829&viewfull=1#post30829) in the Fish a Day thread? Or perhaps the pic of my weedy seadragon tattoo in one of the tattoo threads?

If I had to pick another it would be quite a task. Ayla already mentioned the hippocampus. Perhaps a torpedo ray (electric shock) for defense or a wobbegong shark for offense? For something more fantastical I might go with a feejee mermaid or jenny haniver. For something more mundane, I might pick a dragon moray. The more macabre side of me might want a hagfish or cookie cutter shark.

Umm... I might like more than one animal companion? ;)

No worries - plenty to share! :)

And let me add a giant pacific octopus (http://montereybayaquarium.tumblr.com/post/17955182992/why-were-so-attached-to-the-giant-pacific) ... they look so huggy

I am reminded of this 3D model (http://www.daz3d.com/shop/sea-serpent/) I used years ago.

Frilled shark, for swimming around with in the deep sea.

And maybe a deep sea isopod for a housepet. :D They're about the size of a small (chihuahua perhaps) dog.

Why Obey My Brain doesn't offer a giant isopod hat is beyond me! I think there are plans for one on the web, somewhere, though.

Giant isopods in action (not for the squeamish or vegan mers ;) )

I once made a really cool model of a giant isopod out of tissue paper and wire. If I can find a photo I'll post it here!

So pretty! I'd definitely want a sea serpent/sea dragon for a companion if I could have one.

If not, then a gaint squid (: And lots of trilobite friends.

I'm also happy to see so much isopod love here!

The serpents are lovely.. they remind me of the serpents from Surface (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_%28TV_series%29), a short series on NBC years ago. I loved that show.

And they're cute as heck as babies. 4664

Thanks- but I don't use iTunes because I'm on Linux Mint. I actually just want the series on DVD. :) Either way, Netflix also has it, and Hulu as well: http://www.hulu.com/surface

I'd prefer a great white shark, (on a no-mermaid diet)! Nobody would mess with you if you had a companion like that by your side ;)

My wife opened a package in the mail, earlier. "Is that a scallop?" she asked, holding up the plush item.

"No," I replied "It is a scallop PUPPET!" I then gleefully placed the item on my fingers.
