I am trying to figure out how to make my own tail (doing way to much research then is probably good for me) and there is one thing that I absolutely would love some help/advice on. I want to cover my tail in individual scales (yes I know that's about a million and one scales and will take me forever) and I've been trying to think of a plausible way to make them I remember on the old treads [I don't remember but if someone tells me I'll put their name here] mentioned carving a pattern into a rolling pin like so:

However it was noted this would not work as it would just squish the ALEX or the Silicone out the sides with out actually making any scales or giving anything much of a texture. I was thinking about the same sort of idea but instead of carving it into the pin making it stick out, like a cookie cutter. If the scales were designed like a puzzle they could all fit together and get as many scales per space/roll as possible. Sorta like all the designs that look like this:
463
That's the idea if it's even possible for me to make a rolling pin cookies cutter. I guess my major question would be what sort of surface could I put the ALEX or Silicone on for it to dry enough for me to roll over it with the cutter and then once dry peel off like those gel window decorations (http://www.butterfliesanddragons.co.uk/images/978a.jpg). I was thinking that maybe plastic wrap or aluminum foil or maybe even wax paper would work well but I'm not sure and I'm looking for peoples input on what I should do and how I should go about doing it.

In the end the ultimate goal is to make scale stickers with an easy peel off back.

I'd like to know the answer to this for another costume project... anyone have a good peel off surface for the Alex? Thanks!
