A Mermaid's baby?
Thalassa and I were discussing this in a pm, and I decided I really wanted to know what you all thought.
Y'all know I'm having a baby boy(any day now), and I was just really wondering what you call a baby mer.
A baby fish is called a fry,
a baby dolphin, whale, or manatee is called a calf,
but what do you call a baby half human/half marine creature?

Thoughts?

I call them Merbaby or a SeaWee .. I personally like SeaWee cause it's a wee little one from the sea..lol

Early congrats on the boy! I'm sure you're just filled with excitement for him!!!

Hmm, I never really put thought into that. Something about calling a mermaid's baby a calf doesn't really roll off the tongue for me. A fry sounds kinda cute and simple :) A merchild? Merbabe? Nipper? (Hehehe) Bairn? Squirt?

Those are my two-cents xD

Buoys and Gulls? ;)
XD you always get me Aeolius! no matter what thread I see you in you always make me giggle!

A nuck?
A what? where'd that come from?

I thought about tadpole, and minnow.

Calf makes me feel like a seacow, pup makes me feel like a seadog.
I think of merlings as being between toddler-sized and legal-aged.
I like Seawee, squirt, and Nippers.

Maybe, Nippers for all newborns/infants, then seawee for girls and squirts for boys?

I like the 'Merlings', it just fits.
But for cute little nicknames I would probably call them Squirts, Seawees, or Nippers xD
Super cute

I like merlings, too, but I tend to think that's a teenage mer?

I dunno, the progression in my mind goes

Squirt (or merlet?)=Infant ---> Guppy=Toddler/Child ---> Merling = Teenager ---> Mermaid/merman

Peanut? "Dolphin, Coryphaena hippurus, are also called Dolphinfish, Mahi Mahi and Dorado. They are not related to the porpoise which also is sometimes called Dolphin, those being a mammal rather than a fish. They are also called by names to indicate their size - peanut dolphin being the small, hand sized juveniles; bailers refer to fish in the two - 5 pound range where as the bigger fish are often called gaffers (due to the need for a gaff to get them in the boat)." link (http://www.topsailangler.com/wiki/Dolphin/)

So many adorable names... I call my daughter a merbaby, but she's 3 so she'll soon be a mergirl, mermaid, or such.

But SeaWee? Adorable!
