Here's a very short underwater clip of me swimming for the first time. This was more of a practice video, to see how I move in the water...no makeup, no extensions or a wig, regular bathing suit top...no theatrics, just swimming :) Any constructive criticism is welcomed :)

Hmm. The video is kind of short to analyze your stroke, but from what I can see...you're using your knees instead of you hips for power.

You want to be undulating underwater to move. You should be using your core to start the undulation and use your hips to power your legs; the knees should follow and you snap a bit with the feet. Youtube has tons of videos, but this one has some great examples on undulation (nevermind the it's a huge advert for Finis).

User GoSwim98 has a great series on developing the dolphin kick in four steps, here's the first:

Hope that helps! You look absolutely lovely in your tail and I can't wait to see more :)

I think you did a great job Nikki! Especially for your first time!
I think Maple had it pretty spot on, it looks like too much reliance on your knees and legs still,
but it's not a bad thing, it's just something you have to overcome since that's what you use when
swimming most of the time. Whenever I swim in my monofin I always feel the burn on my abs and
pectorals. Your knees and legs shouldn't feel anything since they're merely following the movements
of your upper body.
