I've been working on songs about mermaids and mermen. I thought Id share though they all are VERY rough.

Here's one I wrote for Raven:

Capo 2
Verse 1:
C Em Am Em
I know a water baby
she's so full of beauty
a siren of the sea
just out of reach of me
G2 Em
and we all tell the story
while she laughs bubb-eh-ly
C Em Am Em
of how she fell so roughly
for a world so weary
C Em x4 Bridge
Verse 2:
No one else tries harder
to spread her love more farther
than the baby with her fire
never dampened by the water
G2 Em
Listen and hear her whisper
all the secrets told about her
C Em Am Em
water baby tears grow dimmer
outshined by the light around her
C Em x4
Verse 3:
Listen can you hear her singing?
even though her trust is breaking
water babies keep creating
even when their hearts are aching
G2 Em
She keeps on holding
on to hope even though it's hurting
C Em Am Em
water babies keep on swimming
and we all just keep on living
C Em x4
Liv-eh-ing live-eh-ing without water babies x2

I also originally wrote this song for Mermaid Melissa back when I was a supporter to try and help her out and pick up her spirits

Capo 1
D A Em G
You came from the sea and I don't know why
You chose us to be your home for a while
And the rumour goes, that you can talk with the animals
And the days pass by, as you float, on, sea foam....
oh, mermaid Melissa where have you gone?
The ocean is empty, and the moonlight's not on.
I heard you were swimming out to the west
to be with the one that you love best
I heard a story that there was a man
He missed the ocean he was stuck on the land
He asked you to stay and visit for a while
but he turned away in a hurtful style
mermaid Melissa where have you gone?
The ocean is empty, and the moonlight's not on.
I heard you were swimming out to the west
to be with the one that you love best
Bridge: Best Best Best....
We saw you last swimming, your heart on the coast
Memory of the man, now only a ghost
We hope you'll return to your home on the ground
but only after your happiness is found
(but we still wonder) mermaid Melissa where have you gone?
The ocean is empty, and the moonlight's not on.
I heard you were swimming out to the west
to be with the one that you love best

I dont have it anywhere online to listen to anymore

Here's the first song I wrote about mertailor back during the first wave of drama... I think I'll be writing another one...

The Merman Song
Capo 3
am f c e
A merman came ashore with a dr-eam
to turn fiction into re-al-ity
he started working he was only 15
where did the merman go?
Working hard and learning the trade
growing up and getting afraid
paranoid of being betrayed
where did the merman go?
am f c e
And I know I know you lost your innocence
I know I know it's gone
I know I know you traded for the world
all those pretty things wont keep you warm (your pretty merman song)
taking time and getting the flow
where did the years all go?
You were swimming now you're walking around
your feet dont even make a sound
Had big dreams of sharing your world
but too long in ours had you unfurled
forgot your ways and your people too
what are the mermaids supposed to do?
but it's not too late to go back home
don't you know the sea is calling?
second chances no need to be alone
I can tell your soul is breaking...

Lovely songs, Raina dahling!

These remind me of an idea I have for a poem I might write about being asexual in an increasingly over-sexualized world that sort of uses being a mermaid as a metaphor for asexuality since fish are biologically asexual
