WMA Editorial

Hello, Im going to be writing pre and post editorials about the WMA. There's a few things going on that seem to have caused a lot of controvesy and we're going to talk about them. I've all ready recieved some information but if you have an experience you'd like to share (positive or negative) or a concern or praise please PM me or email me mikamer75@yahoo.com I will be compiling all our information into an editorial both as one before the WMA and then after when everyone's experienced it. Mermanjr, just stop it right now. I don't care if you disliked the WMA's (I wasn't there), I don't appreciate the aggressive attitude you are taking towards Sita. If you have a personal grievance with Sita then you need to take it up with her privately, instead of being a loud-mouth on the forums and co-ercing others into feeling the same way you do.

Surely you are learning from organising Mer-Palooza that organising a large-scaled event is no mean feat, and you too will learn that mistakes can be made. I suggest learning to be a little more diplomatic,tolerant and modest in your endeavours and start trying to repair rather than burning the bridges you are crossing in regards to other mer's around here. Calling people names is immature and childish and should not be tolerated on the MerNetwork AT ALL . Grow Up.

For everyone else, I hope you get your facts straight rather then relying on slander, insults and gossip.

Gary, I asked you before to respect our rules about personal attacks- don't make them. You're welcome to discuss everything about the World Mermaid Awards, but you have to do it respectfully. If you continue to make personal attacks like this then you will be temporarily suspended from the forum.

So how did the WMA's turn out? I didn't find out about it in time to go.

The first time I ever planned a big event I was a nervous wreck. The woman who was helping me told me that if on the day of the event, absolutely everything is going wrong, you're pulling your hair out and putting out fires right and left - but the attendees think everything is fine - then your event is a success. It is simply not possible to plan an event to run perfectly, and this was a major undertaking. I was beside myself when I found out someone was doing this, and in spite of the last minute venue hiccups, I showed up determined to have a good time. I had a blast. Sure, some things could have been better, but a bad day at a MERMAID CONVENTION is better than a good day at the office!
There has been a lot of snarking at all of the organizers and sponsors. This is a thankless job, and an intimidating project to take on, so this is my personal thank you to everyone who organized, contributed to, sponsored a booth at, read and autographed books at, complimented other mers during, or otherwise helped to make the event everything that it was. You are all fantastic and very much appreciated!

Hello, I was there and pretty critical to the event happening. I was one person who at the last minute helped coordinate, along with my Pageant staff, the Silverton as a location when things with the Mirage fell apart.

I personally have a ton of love and respect for Sita and she learned a lot about producing events. She was dealt some pretty hard blows and I FEEL she had some Vegas locals trying to take advantage of her - That is simply my opinion.

Gary is planning a mermaid pool party and it isn't the same as MerCon. In the end, ANY event where the beautiful mermaids gather...is a success, because you're there.

MerCon had some great highlights, my pageant being one for me. I got a lot of good press for MerCon overall and I am so happy it happened. MerPalooza will be an awesome party, as well and all the Florida mer's are excited about going, from what I can tell!

Aela-- I'm the person who told him to make his own thread (which he didn't) because I was annoyed seeing all the year late necro posting. I told him if he had that bad an issue he could write his own editorial review' to my knowledge I am the ONLY person to suggest he do it, and I'm NOT ashamed. People are perfectly welcome to critique events, just not in the manner gary did. Which wasn't what I suggested.

My feedback: I'm aware of some of the issues that others have mentioned, but I choose to recognize what worked out well, and all things considered, I had a good time. It worked out well.

I really enjoyed just having somewhere to talk and swim and meet new people. I think in the future, the effort that went into organizing the awards, the sound equipment, and the high production would have been much better spent trying to simplify and facilitate the natural fun that occurs in a good party. It certainly didn't take away, but I think streamlining would help.
