Art Gallery Openings

I've been indexing all the types of gigs I've done in a variety of ways to share with you all. I hope it'll give you some ideas into things you can book yourself and help you draw inspiration.

If you have mermaid photos and footage of yourself, team up with the people who helped you make it, and get it installed at a local art gallery. I did this last year (with my mertailor tail) and the reception was awesome. People loved the photos and video, and I attended the opening for the show in my tail. I think this is an untapped area for gigs that people miss, and also a great way to get yourself some exposure. After all, what we do is frequently considered performance art!

It's nice to see somebody give pointers on exposer. Last week I was swimming at a local beach an had a few peoole ask if they can take a picture with me who live in the area. It was fun.5052

That's BRILLIANT! I'm an artist myself, but I've never learned HOW to get into galleries (they teach you how to MAKE the art, but not actually how to -get anywhere- with it, yanno? No talk of how to get into galleries, how to work for museums & get other creative jobs, or even the business-end of the art biz. SO NUTS!) So I can't believe I've never thought of this before! Thank you so much!

I agree! My BA is in Art History and Associates in Fine arts and Design and never had any classes to the marketing side of art. I did have a portfolio class before graduating where each student a day brought in their work and had a critique with the class and then the second half of the semester you only had to come in with your top few pieces to be professionally photographed that were made I to slides to send to a graduate school or even a gallery. This was only like 4 years ago and I felt like making slides were outdated compared having a digital portfolio instead of sending slides in the mail. I wish there was a class to teach you about galleries, shows,selling online with a gallery vs setting up your own store, maybe even something about selling at art shows.

I did my first gig today at an art show, it was so fun!! I can't wait to do more events and parties!
