So tomorrow we have family court for the judge to pronouce everything official on my son being adopted by my husband. (doing the kids one at a time because they have a different process due to different circumstances.) I have decided that after court, to celebrate and have some awesome mer-mommy mer-ling time....AND so my daughter can be happy and not feel left out...I'm gonna dig out my sons pirate get up and my tail and head for the beach with the kids. I'm going to give my daughter her very first monofin and let her play mermaid and get pics of the kids. :D I'll be posting later in the week. Hope for me that the weather stays nice enough to go and not wreck my Nikon.

Hooray! As the bestie posted on FB, my husband is "adding to his family one addition at a time." ;) My son is now for all legal purposes his biological son in the eyes of the court and his name is officially changed as well. We celebrated with lunch and the beach. The boys as their pirate-y selves, and us girls as mermaids...my daughters first time. :)

My Dad did this for me as well when I was 8. He passed away last year, but he gave me the best childhood I could have asked for. I'm so glad your husband is a good enough man to do this. :)

awe!!! your kids are adorable!! :D

& my biological dad wouldnt let my stepdad adopt me, even though he had to pay child support if he didnt. theyre both wonderful dads, i was about 1 when my mom and stepdad got married, so hes been with me my whole life, but everyone waited till i was older to tell me that my real dad was another guy. we keep in touch though, which is great (:
its always sort of sad though, when someones birth father voluntarily steps out of the picture. hopefully that isnt what happened to your kiddies, lyna.

BUT OMG THEYRE SO CUTE. sorry for the life story xD

ACTUALLY.....after these pics, we got her into the water for her first mermaiding experience, and as feared...SHE HATED IT. she wants nothing to do with mermaiding. there wasn't anything she liked about it. she couldnt follow directions, kept kicking the fin off, couldnt swim, wouldnt just lay across my arms to get used the the feeling, and screamed bloody murder.
my son....who hates water....did a much better job in the lake overall. so maybe in another year he'll want to try out the fin. :)

So cute that you have a potential merboy in the making.

myes...that is exactly what happened.....2 dads....2 abandonments. poor kids. but they have one dad now. and after we get this move taken care of, we're starting the adoption process on my daughter. we did them seperately because they're different processes.
my son's, we thought would be contested, so i hired a lawyer and all that. his father hadn't seen him in almost a year (6 months at the time i filed paper) so i filed for abandonment in ny state. his dad had threatened me for years about the things he would do if i ever took him to court. so i paid out the butt preparing for the worst, and he didn't even bother showing up to say he didn't want his rights taken away. so we won by default and he now has no claim on his son whatsoever (not that he was on the birth certificate to begin with because he refused to sign it...beings as my son was born on a work day and it was too important to sit at the shop in case customers came in, than be there for his son being born).
my daughters dad and i were married for quite some time, and actually are still "friends". we get laong much better this year than any time since we were roommates after the split...yea..if that gives you any idea of how nice a seperation it was. lol. but he says that he isn't a father, he isn't cut out for it. and i think he should try...but a decade of knowing him...i appreciate that he recognizes his faults. he himself was adopted thru an agency and it's a terrible story. so he struggles with some issues from that. and he has a lot of issues with drugs. so he doesn't want to expose her to his behaviors and so on. he's 3,000 miles away so it's not like she's missing out on him choosing to not come see her. and she's 7...so she's used to it. (my son is 3 so i don't think he realizes it. my husbands been around most of the time when my son was aware) anyways, because we get along and he chooses not to be a father, he told me 3-4 years ago that he would sign whatever i wanted. so her adoption will be uncontested, and since we are military, we can get hands on that paperwork for free and it will be much faster. :)
sorry for MY life story. hahaha
