so i am nearing the finish of making my tail. i absolutely love the paint job. i have a question. how long should i wait before going for a swim in it? it is made of alex plus and i used mermaid lira's painting tips of mixing the alex plus with lighter fluid and paint. so how long should i wait???? we leave for niagra on sunday so i was hoping for a test swim in the neighbor's pool before i take it out on the lake. if either of those goals would be possible.

You need to make sure the ALEX is COMPLETELY and totally cured. Sometimes this can take weeks with ALEX, depending on heat, humidity, ect. If you take it in before hand it can not only ruin it but it can be toxic and very dangerous for your health. Like emergency room dangerous. A few members have had run-ins with this problem - although theirs were in the fluke, where it takes forever to dry and lots of contact with the skin. How long ago did you paint it?

Some people say the sun will destroy a tail...some people say it causes the alex to cure double time...so idk. I've had amazing luck putting my tail in the sun on suggestion of the tailmaker. (The other I haven't done so because the maker says don't.)

I have a thin layer of the tinted clear alex plus on top of fully cured white alex plus. I have been working inside in the air con. So no humidity and it seems to be curing within 24 hours. I know they say that you can caulk your shower/bathtub with it and use it within 24 hours. Since the tail I have made is from 4mm to 7 mm of neoprene lined and the alex won't be touching my skin at all I am not too worried about having any kind of reaction to it. Also since I have been working with it for years (i was a house painter for 7 years and used it) being that I was never a neat worker I would go home with caulk all the way up my calf and down both arms. It never gave me any trouble. The only trouble we ever had was when we accidently bought clear and were yelling at each other when we though noone had caulked around an entry way. Then we realized how clear it dried and that it was already caulked 3 times. Oops! But never a skin reaction. I just worry that the tail will get ruinedif I don't wait. SO what are your guesses?
