Well here is my first tail! Finished the fluke on friday night (added rubber to the existing monofin to make it wider) then made the fabric part last night. Will be heading to a pool party this afternoon so hopefully I'll have some pics of it on me then!

This is to die for! I love the shape of the fluke and the fact that you can't see a line where the monofin ends; I hate that in a tail and am trying to avoid it in my own. I can't wait to see pics of you in it. I know you'll be a beautiful Ariel.

Yay! Just got home a little while ago from the pool party & my tail was a HUGE hit! Heh, I didn't know many people there so lemme tell you it was a great icebreaker. ;) Unfortunately there was one guy that could not keep his hands off my fluke; he just wanted to see how it worked & really loved it but it got creepy a few times so Hubby saved me. :p

Leaning up against the wall trying to just get a pic of how pretty the fabric looked under the water!

And we got a short video with Hubby's phone but you can see how the tail moves!

I really had a lot of fun with it and can't wait to try it in a larger pool. I need to seal the top of the extra rubber on the monofin as it caught the estra water & got a little heavy at some points trying to lift it out of water. But overall I love it!

I also made myself a starfish headpiece; not to wear it in the water but just at the party itself

So overall the tail was a great success! I need to re-sew a spot where I pulled too hard and broke a few stitches on the side so a small hole opened in the seam. Will see about airbrushing in some shading as well; need to find my airbrush! I also want to try and figure out how to seal the top part of the extra rubber I added for the fluke as the rest of it is sealed so it took on a bit of water at times. I also look forward to trying to swim in a deeper pool; this one was only 5 ft at its deepest but it was great for my first mer-swim ever. :p

Yay! I can't explain really how giddy I was the whole time I was swimming with it but I'm sure some of you know what I am talking about. :D

BTW I forgot to mention; this isn't really an 'Ariel' tail for my costume I'm making of hers; this is just one that happens to be the same color but i really wanted my first tail to be green. :D

Wow, The tail and fluke flow beautifully in the water! Well done! As for the rubber sheet issue, you can either try and find a good glue to seal it up completely, or you can make holes in the bottom of the insert to allow water to flow out freely. Others have found with loser fitting Mertailor tails (where the neoprene doesn't create a seal to the skin) that having holes in the bottom of the fluke to let the otherwise trapped water flow through fixes the issue. Either that or filling the fluke with latex or something similar to adhere and 'seal off' the fluke from water. I had a similar issue painting the bottom of my fabric tail's fluke with acrylic paint as it didn't let the water flow out right. You may want to try the hole/opening route before you go wadge wars with the monofin and rubber glue wise. Hope that helps!

Love the starfish- very beautiful! Also I can tell you that with brown hair and a blue and purple tail I am still always "Ariel" to every kid who sees me. With that red hair you may always be "Ariel", but don't take it personally ;D I think you make a splendid Ariel!
