In the movie aquamarine they were talking about a slimy tail. What would be a good method to create the slimy illusion?

I know Jesse (Mermaid Creations) uses perma wet to make the tail look like it's always wet. Other than that, don't now. But that's a start!

I don't know what effect this would have on your tail but, olive oil? Or Vaseline?

NEVER use Vaseline or any petroleum based products on a lycra, neoprene, or latex tail! It will damage the materials beyond repair. Just the same, never use silicone based products on a silicone tail! The two will melt each other and be permanently gummy and very fragile- permanently ruined. Just FYI for you there.

Dumping water on your tail every two minutes?

I knew there was something fishy about the idea! xD I was like "Why hasn't anyone said this before o_o" that's probably why. Thanks for saving my tail!

how about hot glue. not directly on but webbed. like make a piece then glue it on .make a line on a board then web it out from there pulling individual strands till u get the look of cascadeing water. its a brain storm. i have no idea if it would work.

Sounds good but I have been burnt one to many times with hot glue. Clear sequins are too much work and even then how do you sew them on?

Mix an opalescent pigment with some clear paint base and brush it on? There's these bottles of shiny pigments at Michael's, but I forget what they are called.

Found it, I think. This might not be the specific brand I saw. I do, however, remember using this brand on some clay project in middle school. It was super shiny and I bet that you could use it for a slimy effect.

Corn syrup? Sticky strands kinda have the same effect as slimy, and I don't think it'll damage your tail at all. Just hand wash all the syrup out and put it in the washer.

Perma Wet is used for latex. Do not use latex products for silicone!

I only use silicone based products in my creations, no latex, period.

The Pearl Ex pigments are awesome and produce irredescent effects and work great with ALEX! They were my secret pigment in the yuku site days.

RESPORATORS/DUSTMASKS MUST BE USED WITH THESE PIGMENTS!!! The superfine grain goes airborne easily, and is fine enough to be inhaled into the lungs without the body being able to filter it. If this was anthrax, this would be the weaponized version, and you'd be dead! So please take the proper precautions using this material!

I know this is an old thread, but I just came across this (http://www.monstermakers.com/product/perma-wet-gloss-coating.html) stuff and thought of mernetwork!
Looks like it works for latex and uerthane, but no info on silicone. I'd expect you could test it on fabric, as well.
