I've been a bit low lately, and I needed some creative outlet to deal with things. So... I started a new tail.

I had some left over fabric from when I made the spotted tail. This time, however, I am making a simple tail. No extra fins and a simple paint job. Well, simple as in few colors, but it is still taking a while.

As you can see, my cat (Selkie) is clearly impressed with my work.

Wow, the paint job is impressive. It's going to look great when it's finished!

Orca, i love how you call that a "simple paint job". Those scales were so good that it took me a minute to figure out if it was silicone or fabric! lol you are amazing!

Thank you. :)

The paints are pearlized and the scales do look raised in person given how the light hits the paint. I did take a video of it and I am debating putting it on Youtube.

I think you should put it on YouTube! All people can do is say words, and with a person with as much confidence as you, hate can't do a thing! ...but why would someone want to hate that beautiful tail? It's cause they're jealous of your epicness. :)

Here is the finished tail:

Sitting in a chair in the tail so that the purple (though they look pink) underbelly scales could be seen.

The back of the tail. No dorsal fin, no extra fins, just a simple tail this time. Even the fluke was painting simple.

The side of the tail. The scales do an all right job hiding the seem; not bad for just paint.

The only thing I do not like about it is how the tips of the fins hang over. What can I do though, I have a rapid and no money for a nicer monofin. ;)

Now! Onto the bra!

Looking good! The painted scales do hide the seam pretty well. What fabric is it made of?

Mal -- It is just a thick lycra. It's the same material as my spotted tail; just what was left over when I made it.

Very nice work! You did a great job with those scales. They kind of look like sequins!

great job! i've been thinking of doing one similiar but then coating it in clear silicone to save the hassle of sculpting scales. anyone have thoughts on that?

This is unrelated, but I'm in love with this video ^_^ Your harp playing is beautiful - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sq83drasSmo&feature=plcp

The tail is fantastic! I love the paint job.

Agreed this is very good harp playing. Reminds me of Kim Robertson's pieces; especially her Gaelic Tale inspired pieces. There is also a good CD with similar music : Legend of Diedre (http://www.amazon.com/Celtic-Tale-Deirdre-Mychael-Danna/dp/B000000X79). One can never be too late to learn to take up harp music. There is fortunately some nice harp music around Zurich, inspired by Tale of the Gael (http://www.irelandharp.net/). Hope you dont mind the slight straying off topic...

My goodness, this is so very beautiful! I think the tips hanging over gives it a natural look. (but if it bothers YOU, is there anything you can "stuff" the tips with?)
I can't wait to see the top! I'm sure it will be lovely as well.
