#respectprofessionalmermaids

I've seen a lot of these going around online for different jobs I decided to make one for mermaids! Of course, this is just an EXAMPLE of what a professional could put into ONE gig. This is what I generally put into each gig. In addition, many of us still have to allot for performers insurance, misc costs, and many of donate countless hours and materials to charity.

We spent countless hours advertising for ourselves and some spend money on advertising too. Many of us do all we can by donating our time, experience, and knowledge to help other mermaids get involved in the community.

Performing mermaids are just as valid as any other professional artist or performer out there. So respect those mermaids!

Feel free to share around!

I think thats great Raina. And its very true, people judge before they take the time to learn about something or someone. Which is a shame really

I would add insurance costs; professional education (diving certificates) and people qualifications (how to handle adults, time discussing with abusive teenagers) and of course first aid certification. There should also be an official certification that you are qualified to walk with legs on land; not every mermaid can succeed on that last one.

Thanks for the post Raina! That is so very true! :) I can't say I'm professional (since I mainly do volunteer work), but the past 2 events that I have done were so expensive! I was doing a meet and greet at a street festival a few weeks ago, and I could not believe the amount of money and time I spent preparing for it! (And I didn't pay a booth fee!) This is a great reference too for those of us that are starting out!

yeah I added those things in the post, not on the photo because they dont technically apply to individual bookings but rather the overall expense of being a mer (which would also include tails etc)
