I have a belly button piercing and when I make my tail I want to do parties, a lot of them with kids. I am a bit afraid of parents disapproving me having it and being around their kids, but if I took it out Im not sure if you could see the hole where the piercing goes in(this is my first belly ring, I haven't taken it out yet) and having kids ask me why I have a hole in me....
I plan on having a seahorse ring or one with shells on it and making my tail come up just under my belly button so it does not rub together.
Opinions? Ideas? Parents, what do you think about it?
Am I just worrying about silly things?

I have my belly button pierced. I'm not too worried about it because I feel like people consider it more normal than most other piercings, I mean, cmon, what girl doesn't get her belly button pierced in high school, especially since it gives her an excuse to flaunt her body to the guys. ANYWAYS, I'd stick with something small, maybe a ring with clear balls on the end [work safe piercings] or make it mermaid themed. I have a ring with an anchor on the end, I have one with a helms wheel, I have a sailboat one, etc. I honestly don't think it will be that big of a deal. Try wearing a ring of your choice and see how people react. If they react negatively, just take it out and when the kids ask about it, say you were hooked on a fisherman's line once and the hole from the hook never went away or something to that effect. :)

If you look in the accessories list (the sticky) there are several shops with gauged (and fake gauge) octopus tentacles. I'm sure there could be something made for a belly button piercing (it's 14g or something, right?) if you ask around for a custom piece. Could be cool or creepy depending :P And you could always say that a sea urchin gave it to you or something. I know when asked about her tattoos Raven told a kid that an squid gave it to her! Ink and all that ;)

i like the ideas that ayla and winged suggested. and if anything, you could always ask the parents before the party. i dont know why anyone would say that they disapproved, since most people think its a cute piercing anyways.
i think that's silly. tons of mers have belly rings. they're small and cute (in the grand scheme of things) i would be more worried about kids snagging it...but more so the waist of your tail snagging it. you get used to it, and it takes a lot to tear them honestly. i have dermal anchors along my hip, lower than my belly rings (yes plural), and i haven't had an issue. if certain of us mers can explain away how we became so tattooed, i'm sure a little belly stud is nothing. your other option, if you are afraid of taking it out, is to get a back up plain silver barbell (i strongly advice against plastics especially in newer holes) and you can roll it in a clear nail polish and then foundation (just on the balls) and mask it to match your skin color, so at least it is drawing less attention by being shiny. but i really don't think you'll find it to be a problem like you are worried.

Thanks guys. I really like the ideas here. A lot of the people who live in my town are really conservative about stuff like that. They like the mermaid idea but piercings and tattoos are crazy!!! Its really weird.
Winged, yea its 14. Octopus tentacles would be so cool.
