You ought to see them as babies, a leptocephalus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leptocephalus) (the flat and transparent larva of the eel, marine eels, and other members of the Superorder Elopomorpha):

The ribbon eel is the only moray eel that is protandric (organisms that are born male and at some point in their lifespan change sex to female).

Bah I love ribbon eels!
I actually did a project on them for my senior year of marine biology class! They're really cool :')
