I know I sometimes seem forums where people say where they've spotted vinyl floor matting for their tails like Hannah has.
Well I was in Home Depot and I found a good stock of it! It comes in two or three sizes, I took the smallest size since I knew I wouldn't need a lot. It was only $6 for a whole role! Not too bad! I'm a pleased mer right now.

I plan on attaching it to my tail when it comes next week. Just thought I'd share since I thought it was quite the deal xD

Just wanted to say so far the people that have found the matting- the strips are actually way smaller than what's on Hannah's. To get the same thickness you would only cut sections of 3 strips together as one to get the same size, rather than cutting each strip. If you think it looks good that's fine, but just my input for those who care, since I saw the tails up close in person :)

Thanks Winged Mermaid :) I knew someone found it at Costco, and I saw it online at Walmart for $20. Figured it was rather cheap at Home Depot and should share xD

I'm a bit confused. What is this used for in tail making?

It's for the "frayed" effect some people attach to their tails. It's famously known on Hannah's tails here.

I had found mine at a local Kmart was in there for air freshened and found it accidentally. A small roll was three dollars and small ridges. FYI

Awesome Tory :) I always thought this stuff was a tad "pricey". I normally saw it online for at least $20.

Oh ya. Well like i said just walking through Kmart and found a whole section of shelf liners...I believe they had a few different sizes but I just grabbed the smallest one. my mom even said that i could use it inside the fluke as a way to give some rigidity to the fabric fluke which was pretty good. i will find the link on kmart.com

12x6 clear ribbed shelf liner- kmart 4.99
i used this stuff to make my entire fluke. i used the large size from home depot. it works great and looks good under water. the stuff they have at walmart is a lot longer length which is why its $20. i only found ouut after using the home depot purchased vinyl that they had it at walmart and cosco. it is a difference of $6-$9 for 4ft. or $20 for 15 yards. it is a different brand but looks identical. so if you have a use for the 15 yard size from cosco it is a huge money saver.

Your mom is right... I just did this with shelf liner for my fabric tail, and it works well to hide the monofin shape and even give my fluke a bit more power. I swear I feel a difference in how it swims. The best part is, it feels more 'real' because it has some weight and structure in there. I'm going to have to put some velcro in though so it'll close and not slide around so much in there. I left it with enough extra material to wrap around my ankles. I think I'm going to glue the seams too so my sewing won't rip out.

Thank you! I'm really excited about using it some more - I've only gotten one swim in with it. Anyway I thought that would be helpful! By the way, I found my shelf liner at my local Kroger Marketplace store. It was about $6 for the wider rolls I think. And I'm also excited because I have enough left to make fins for a future tail with. I wonder why it's so expensive online?
