Ok mers. I need you smart brains to help me out.
I am doing a event at a Sushi restaurant grand opening. It's basically a photo op for people who are waiting in line to get gift certificates.
So how should I set up? I don't want it to be cheesy. I've got a decent budget and I am crafty as can be, but I don't have a lot of time.
Any genius ideas?

Hmm I dunno if this will be too expensive, but maybe it won't be
I'd get a round ottoman or any sort of rounded, short cushioned seat/chair
(like this)

^Sorry it's too huge to host here, but this is generally what I mean
Then consider decorating it like sushi!

I'd get a white sheet or blanet to throw over the ottom (if it's not already white) so
that the top you're sitting on is white, then you can go to a craft store and get
a few yards of black felt so you can wrap it entirely around the ottoman (the seaweed
layer).
Then maybe you can just cut out some fabric pieces of crab meat/avocado/whatever
the sushi is made out of to put in the center of the pillow.
That way you're sitting on a giant piece of sushi and you dont have to mod up your
tail as much xD
man! I should be there! I'm a mer...ANNNNND ...
I HAVE SUSHI TATTOOED ALL DOWN MY LEFT ARM SLEEVE!

Well a bit cheesy are all the naked sushi bars - but as a mer do you really want to have fish on your tail? Perhaps encourage people by having some half eaten morsels close by...?
Or perhaps encouraging people by show casing some of the bites in clam shells?
An ottoman or chaise long would be a great way to recline or are they expecting you to perform?
Are they giving you free reign to do your own thing or do the owners also have ideas?
If it is more for photo shoot for promotional material then perhaps a mer hand bringing. Splats of sushi to the surface; sea water falling from face and hair.

I love how this says it only has 1 view but so many replies haha.
I would get some dark coloured tissue paper to look like the seaweed they use for rolling, maybe have some plush crab and fish hanging around you. I like the idea of sushi in a clam shell, maybe chopsticks in your hair?

The ottoman idea is so cute! I feel like my big mermaid butt would cover the details and the idea might be lost?
I have free reign to do as I wish. I am an event coordinator and my company was hired to do the whole event, so of course I was all like "ooh a mermaid would be perfect for this "
I will be outside of the restaurant in the Texas sun, so no sushi on me! It's basically a Photo op for the families who are waiting in line to get their gift certificates.
I was thinking a set round table with the mermaid on top? is that dumb?

Depending on how big and hard the ottoman is, you can turn it on it's side and sit or recline over it, so you can still see the sushi print. I used to do that all the time when we had one.

If you have the time you could always try to buy some sushi pillows to lay on the floor around you
so that people can sort of relate the ottoman you're sitting on to the other sushi pieces around
you when they see the color similarities.

If not, you could always take a whack at making them yourself. They don't seem too
difficult, most of them are simply round/square shapes and making pillows is fairly
easy and it can be very cheap if you use a cheap fabric (felt!!)
They apparently have a roll on amazon that's not too bad in price:

If outside - what about a children's paddling pool with paper mâché rocks around the edge?
A low stool to allow you to sit and splash people with your tail... Plus some of the decorations mentioned to hide the appalling colours these pools tend to have. If power is possible then look for an ultrasound water vaporizer to allow some steam to drift up - makko pool style?
For the children you were summoned to the restaurant and a portal pool was created for you to arrive. If they behave perhaps a portal pool could be used at their next birthday

Are you suggesting serving mermaid sushi on the table? That is the immediate image which comes to mind

I did indeed, Raina. http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?1641-Candy-Sushi-Yummy!&highlight=candy+sushi (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?1641-Candy-Sushi-Yummy%21&highlight=candy+sushi)
You could also tie some 'seaweed' around your tail and lay 'rice' on the surface of the table.
