Hello! I'm getting a latex tail soon and I have to decide which monofin to buy for my tail. I don't know if I really like the shape of the oceanika merfin... it looks a little cartoon-ish. No offense to anyone!! I prefer like a whale shaped fluke. So, i was wondering, just in terms of propulsion, which monofin is faster, the oceanika merfin, or the finis wave. Thanks!!

I hear the merfins are handmade each one, if you also look on the website you'll see mahina's husband has a orca shaped fin, maybe with a extra fee they'll make it that form ;)

Unfortunately, the orca shaped fin isn't coming out until late 2013, and i'm not waiting that long lol thx tho!

well, will the merfin fit your shoe size? They're only made in child sizes so far. If not, you'll have to go with the wave

I have heard that the merfin is only good for slower swimming while the wave gives out more propulsion

Hmm ok thanks!! And actually the size thing is NO problem whatsoever. I already looked up my oceanika merfin size and i'm actually a small hahaha i have ridiculously small feet. Yeah its certainly a dilemma, because i really want good propulsion and a cool shape... I feel like the wave is very rigid and won't look natural in the water though....

Actually Saph. I've got an Oceanika merfin, and I LOVE it. It's got a surprising amount of propulsion for how flexible it is. A finless person was having a hard time keeping up with me when I was testing it out. The amount of propulsion with the Oceanika really depends on the body roll you use with it. If you have a deep dolphin kick, yeah, you will go places. If its shallow, you will have a nice slow pace. I did a LOT of playing when I tested mine out, trying different depths of body rolls for a dolphin kick.

I LOVE that I can vary my speed with the merfin. Sometimes I want a slow swim, and others I want some speed :) It's nice to be able to do either without having to change fins

I'm sold too. I watched a couple videos with oceanika as well. I LOVE how floppy they are! The fact you can change speeds is an amazing revelation. I redesigned my latex tail I'm getting to go with oceanika and I really like the change. :) Thanks for the comparison, mers!

^^ I'm glad I could help you guys. I'm going to the pool again tomorrow. Hopefully get some underwater pics and some video if I'm lucky :) I'll make sure I post them once I can on wednesday... Will try to get video of both slow and fast swimming so you guys can see the difference :)

I didn't make it to the pool last night. Was in a lot of pain, had a severe migraine. Planning on going next tuesday

Do you know the size of the fin? The actual blade? I am trying to compare it to the foil and wave, but all I know is that its bigger. If I had numbers I could sketch out a scale (haha) copy for my fluke.
