I tested my hand at merman bow ties. Don't think anyone makes bow ties yet. Tell me what you think. I can put different shell in center and even paint the netting if you want. Trying to do things for the guys too.

Hope it sparks some interest in the guys. Could be worn as a "formal merman". I wouldn't wear it in water because the stiffness of the bow will go away when wet.

I did not come up with this idea on my own. I read from a fellow merman that he would like a bow tie for his Halloween costume and thought I would try. Don't know if this is what he wanted or not but this is my version or the way I would do it if asked. This is my personal design I pictured in my head and made a reality. Thought I would throw that out there that the design is mine and original but the idea I got from a merman. I was inspired you could say to try it

I think the bow might need a bit of color to show up against the band- I can see it because I know what it is, but I wonder if I didn't know, or if I was a bit of a distance away, I might not be able to see it well. Like you said, you could paint the band or the bow part or both I suppose as an option. Maybe depending on the type of paint you use it could also hold its shape better in water?

When its tied around the neck all you see is the bow. This is flat so this isn't what it'll look like when its on. And the paint won't help it hold in water because this is rope and it absorbs and when it absorbs it becomes flexible. I use fabric paint which absorbs inside the rope. If you use another paint like spray paint it will chip off if you bend it. I tied it around my neck and when my boyfriend came home (by the way I didn't tell him about it yet so he didn't know a thing about it) and he came in the room and saw it he knew what it was instantly. He said oh cool a merman bow tie...that's clever.

I just posted a picture on my Facebook fanpage of 25 shells to pick from to put on the bow tie in the center. If you see one you like tell me the number and I'll stick it on for you and list it in etsy. I also have the mini sand dollars too. Send me a PM on my Facebook to order yours. I only have 2 made and I ran out of netting for the band that ties around the neck. If I sell the two I have and more people want some I'll get more net. Hope you guys like them

Actually the netting might just 'puff-up' in the water, much like your hair when underwater, it would probably just be a bit more flowy

I'm glad to see people thinking about mermen accessories and I love these ideas! Maybe a merman pouch for stuff or maybe shark tooth necklaces or something too. Just ideas....
