Do they carry you around? Or hold your fin while you glue it?
My mertender is also my best friend and business partner. He carries mt fish butt everywhere, and puts up with the never ending crafting.6980 Also he is handsom.

My husband! Even though he doesn't love mertending, he still does it anyway. The last big event I went to he had to mertend for 2 days while getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. I also couldn't do it without him because he makes sure I eat/do my insulin shots/take breaks when I do day long events. It's nice to have someone else there to help me, because I would forget if I was by myself.

I also couldn't do what I do without my sister. She's the best photographer a girl could ask for. And although she can't lift me, she's a great mertender in ever other way! She even has made herself a gorgeous angel fish "walking tail" so that she can still photograph and mertend and be in costume. Isn't she gorgeous?

Though I am new to physically mermaiding out in the real world, he has been a big help with crafts and at the pool! He's already agree to go with me to future planned events to carry me to and fro and wait on me hand and fin. :) And he's quite supportive and interested in what I do!

I actually dont have a mertender :( and i am going to need one eventually. I have started booking parties and such and I dont have anyone. My boyfriend works all week long and only comes home every other weekend (so he can't do it ) i do have a friend Mike and he doesn't work right now. He is 6'2" and is around 250lbs! I know he would be able to lug me around and stuff. We became bestfriends when I was at a party for his girlfriend (my firend). I made a smart a$s comment (because I am sarcastic) and he laughed so hard he spit his beer our all over the beer pong table. I want to ask him but I dont know exactly if he will say yes or not. He's the only one I trust. Plus I would pay him...

Don't be afraid! I joined a dating site (lame I know) and have gone through talking to different guys and within the first couple of days I tell them (because if a guy can't accept you for you he doesn't deserve you) and not a single one has had anything negative to say and once it sinks in for a few minutes I've even gotten comments that it's kind of sexy. So don't be scared just take a deep breath an go for it. I'm sure it'll go ok ;)

There is nothing lame about joining a dating site! It's just another avenue to meet people. It's no ljeees valid than meeting someone at a party or nightclub. And the way I see it, if someone thinks you are freaky because of your mermaiding, the problem is theirs, not yours! Good luck!

Since I started this thread my "mertender" Has become my full blown mermaid partner!
He is the 100% reason I make tails. When I made my first silicone tail I did it just for myself. Jason helped me make it and fell in love with then process. I would have stopped at one if it wasn't for him.

He is my prince and I don't mind if every step I take feels as if I'm treading upon the points of needles or sharp knives. I bare it willingly, a small price to pay for an immortal soul and the chance to be near him ;)18470

That's part of the reason why I wouldn't invest in a silicone tail even if I could.
I need to be able to carry all my stuff myself, and put it on and take it off without help as well of course.

I've been using my silicone tail on my own just fine. I don't have a car so I take the bus to the pool. I bought a large tote bag that fits most of the tail in (a little bit of the fluke hangs out). So it's not impossible to do it on your own, it would just be a lot easier if I had a mertender with a car like I used to. I'm not going to let anything stand in between me and my mermaid dreams :) I'm gonna mermaid with or without a mertender

I have a variety of mertenders! Sometimes, if I find myself in a pinch, ill ask the first strong looking guy to help me out! They always find it highly amusing and even stick around until I don't need them anymore. All they ask in return are some funny shots of them "catching" a mermaid for their facebook. I find that if i'm open about my hobbies and wear them with pride, people are very accepting and entertained (which is a win for me, I love to entertain people!). One of the first things I tell people when I meet them is that i'm unconventional and I love my life to be that way. If they don't like it they can get lost and I don't waste any time getting to know someone so closed minded (although I have yet to meet someone like that... my confidence really sells the mermaid thing i guess. :P).

I actually met him through a dating site. That's one reason I'm so scared to tell him. Plus when I texted him today just to say hi, he didn't say anything. It's Valentine's Day and he didn't even say hi, so I'm not sure if he likes me. Which would be better if he'd be my tender and not a romantic interest, so that way it would be okay if we broke up (that didn't make much sense--i meant that if it happened because we were dating and then we broke up, I'd be scared he'd stop mertending >.<) Ugh, I'm not good with this sort of thing.

Seriously though, how do you all find mertenders? I cross my fins every time I meet a guy in hopes that he'll be interested, but every single person I've ever told (except for a few of my very best friends) think I'm a freak for being a mer. So what do you all do? Do you just ask people that you know, or is there like an interviewing pricess or something?

You made sense dear :) honestly it's hard to tell how invested someone is and whether they truly like you. I had a guy I talked to for several months and he just randomly stopped talking to me. If this guy doesn't text you back then he's not worth your time. A decent man would let you know. You deserve better than him and someone better will come along! :) As for finding someone to carry you I'm not sure since I don't have anyone either :-/ not only is it finding someone WILLING to carry you but someone that's STRONG ENOUGH to carry you ha sometimes that can be difficult

You also can do what I do, use a wheelchair when needed to go on dry land ;) or you can see that your at the pool/party-side before the kids are there so you can change into your tail ;)
