Hello,

I am working on some seashell accessories, and my first thought was, well they're seashells so they don't need any treatment to be water usable. But then I started wondering about chlorine. Has anyone ever had a problem with chlorine maybe bleaching colors off their shells?

If seashells might need to be coated to keep the chlorine from damaging the colors, is there anything waterproof and nontoxic to use?

Thanks!

I use naturally colored shells and never had an issue. I don't coat them with anything and I have High chlorine levels in my pool! I don't use painted shells so idk about that but from what I've seen with others who do have painted shells it doesn't other them.

No issue that I know of! I have shell accessories and have been swimming in mostly chlorinated water for well over a year and haven't noticed any difference in color. I haven't heard of anything like that from any other mers either. It does wreak havoc on fabric color, elasticity, and strength though. This can especially be a problem with bra based tops.
