For everyone involved with or attending the World Mermaid Awards in Las Vegas, the Silverton Casino of Las Vegas is not sponsoring or providing assistance with the World Mermaid Awards. According to my contact at the Silverton Casino of Las Vegas, Sita Lange of Maui Mermaids has not signed any contracts, agreements, or provided funding to rent the facility. The contract was due two days ago and has now expired.


I think his contact is Mermaid Melissa, but I dont see how the hotel would be allowed to give out confidential information like contract signing to someone who is not Sita. That sounds a little odd. It's kinda disappointing to see him throw Sita under the bus like that too... not professional. He has nothing to do with the WMA it's not really his business...

Ok look, I just got off the phone with Sita. Contracts are signed and everything is on. Eric is just a lying little bastard, pissed off because Sita wouldn't pay to fly him out. She told me to come on here and set that straight because she is there right now. The lesson? NEVER believe anything you hear from Eric or Melissa. They are both full of shit, liars, and have NOTHING to do with the event. The whole community would be much better off if both of them were just blackballed.

glad to hear Sita is there and working things out! Just to clarify I dont know for sure if his contact was Melissa, just that she is at that hotel right now and he just did an interview with her so who would it be?

I have also been in contact with the Silverton and recieved a startling email yesterday explaining that the event has not been confirmed and the contracts have not been signed. As I type this I just got off the phone with the Silverton and the event is still not confirmed.

I am starting to feel as though Sita might not be giving us all the information. I know she is very busy and that lines are getting crossed, but when the actual venue is saying that things have not been confirmed, this is a serious cause for concern.

And yes, sponsoring vs hosting is a totally different thing. Either way, we need some real answers.

In my defense I will simply say that as a consumer and a person attending this event I do have a right to know where my money is going and what is happening. This is only fair.

I would also like to comment on the lack of respect you all show your fellow merfolk. Name calling is inappropriate. We are all on the same team aren't we? :(

From what Chris said, Sita is at the silverton right now setting it up. And uh in regards to name calling, Im not a fan of it either, but I would certainly say we're not all on the same team though it would be nice.

@Raina: I hope she is. I tried to get in touch with her over lunch, but she signed off gmail. I figured she might be tired of me offering help... I won't jump to conclusions though. It would be really amazing if we could all have a great time at WMA and move past the mistakes that have been made on all sides.

Yeah, the name calling really needs to stop. We are all part of this community (I don't necessarily mean the forum so much as that we are all merfolk working towards a variety of goals) and we need to treat each other with respect and dignity and this goes for everyone. Giving information and posting details and whatnot is one thing, but calling someone a "lying little bastard" is not necessary at all.

Well, I can understand your point of view Courtney. It probably would been nice to have that information as well though. I can only make comments as the info pops up, so it is good for you to post your side. I am sorry that you got snapped at. You do have a right as a consumer to know..and well if they can't do it..they should just say so and give refunds.

Thank you kazekoh for your input! I appreciate the fact that you can see where I am coming from on this subject. So far as posting the information I have, I am going to wait to let Sita take care of things on her end. What I posted previously is all the information I have collected so far aside from all the emails and back and forth instant messages (all of which I have saved and printed).

I am still cheering her on. I know there is still time to salvage this situation and I wish her all the luck and positive force out there that she will be able to pull it off.

On another note, I agree that there is way to much underhanded stuff going on in this community... (again I'm not necessarily referring to this forum only, I am referring to the community as a whole).

@Chris: You are making me pretty uncomfortable speaking the way you have been. You are completely entitled to your opinions, but I would really appreciate it if you wouldn't force them on those of us who might not agree with you.

I know several people have reported calling the Silverton and the employees didn't have any clue what they were talking about with the WMAs. Sita said it was becuase it's just happened so recently. She said besides the people who went through the booking process her employees won't know, and it won't be posted on the Silverton website since the booking happened so late. I'm going to be calling next Wed to verify before I leave- they SHOULD know regardless by then.

The information I have received explains that the event has yet to be confirmed and that is why it hasn't been posted on their site. So far as employees not knowing, I asked the rep I spoke to find out for me specifically and she was able to ask for the information. She came back at me with exactly what I said above about the confirmation.

I really hope we all receive an update soon.

@Chris: I completely understand and thank you for apologizing. Like I said, you are definitely entitled to your own opinion as are we all. And please don't misinterpret my posts, I am rooting for Sita and I really hope she is able to pull through! She has been working hard and I understand the pressure and stress she must be under. She did make me feel pretty bad and hurt yesterday though and I will be letting her know that personally. In the end, I just hope we are all able to move past this, be friends and have a great time together! :)

As for the WMA, I wish something was 100% set in stone with proof. I love Sita and trust her (obviously, I mean we paid and know this event is going to happen! :) ) But I feel like when someone OTHER than the people directly INVOLVED in the process, post things... rumors get started and all hell breaks loose because no one knows what to believe. Anyone can make up a "source"; not saying he did but honestly, unless your source is the creator or the hotel, don't even say anything.

I let you help with the blog and then you told the silverton you were the new event planner/web designer. I have the email to prove it. Of course they did tell you my event details and chewed me out why my web designer was telling people they can all swim in the tank???. HELLO I AM THE WEB DESIGNER!!!! AND EVENT OWNER. Courtney asked if we can all swim in the AQUARIUM and what's the limits on mermaids. I WILL POST THE EMAIL. I was accused of mermaids wanting to jump in the tank and swim topless in the pool. Hi Sita. In regards to everything you have written I must say that I am now the one who is hurt and very appauled. You have disappointed me greatly.
I have kept records of every conversation that you and I have had and not once have I ever put you down or been rude to you.

For my fellow mers out there I would like to clarify the following:

I have never at any point told the silverton we could "jump in their tank topless." I was asking them if we had access to their tank since I wanted a clear answer on this and Sita, you have made it sound in your update as though we did. Tanya Morgen, the coordinator at the Silverton, responded and said that we do not.

I have never at any time told the Silverton that I am the new event planner. Sita, you did give me permission (I have our conversation saved as proof of this) to update your blog and create a new website for you since the current one had incorrect information on it and was causing confusion in the community.

After recieving Tanya's email, you proceed to say some very rude and inappropriate things to me (again, I have our conversation saved and printed to prove this) and I tried my best to calm you down with no success.

I am now beyond the point where I even want to paricipate in this "event." I will also point out that despite saying you will be emailing me and refunding me, you have yet to do either.

All I have been trying to do this whole time is help. You have left things to the last minute, I understand not all of it can be helped, but you are not conducting yourself in a professional manner and I really don't appreciated all the false accusations.

My name is Courtney and I believe you spoke with my mother Jenny in regards to the World Mermaid Awards that will be taking place at the Silverton this month. I have recently started helping Sita out with a few things including the official blog and I am currently revamping the website which should be up soon.

I know you and Sita have been in contact and I really need an update on the status of the events. I have been keeping in close touch with Sita, but I know she is really busy and I figured it would be best to go straight to the source before I go and post anything else on our website.

I know you must be very busy so I'll try to keep my questions short and to the point!

1. Is the event confirmed to be hosted at the Silverton Casino? If not what still needs to be done to confirm this?

2. What are the details for the performers and where will they be performing on location?

3. Is there a plan for where the vendors will be set up? If not, is there information you will be needing for this?

4. Are there any restriction or limitations regarding the pool and or 117,000 gallon mermaid tank?

Since I am now providing information to my fellow mermaids, I need to be absolutely certain that I have the correct information. If there is anything else you think I should know or you would like me to talk to Sita about, please feel free to let me know!

Hi Sita,

Tried to leave you a voicemail but your mailbox is full. Please email me or call me asap. I am very concerned that you have posted the event on the website with times and dates that aren't available to the convention. We asked for the contract and credit card form to be left yesterday at your convenience. At this time we still haven't received either. We are willing to work with you but we will not proceed without the contract and the credit card form.

Please clarify with your team and address this on your website. This is not confirmed until we have all items requested. .

We have Veil Pavilion on hold for the trade show- 1 day, August 12, from 7a-7p. I need to know layout and what you need as far as set up for the vendors.
Friday evening August 12, we have Sway on hold for you from 7p-11p. I need to know the timeline of events to support you with this event. This event cannot be extended.

The aquarium is not available for any swimming or diving. Guest can take photos by the aquarium but that is all.

All guest must be fully covered through out all events, private or not.

I forget you guys have to deal with 21+. Here it's 18 or 19+ depending on the province, and a lot of venues work super hard to be all ages. What a headache that must be too

The Silverton was the Mertailor's client in that he sold/rented them a latex mermaid tail for their "Sway" advertisement (advertisement here (http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/224517_154370574640084_102013079875834_300253_3933 674_n.jpg)). As I remember this was quite a while ago. That's as much as I know on that subject. Either way I think it was very wrong for him to spread rumors like that, especially since he is not even attending the event.

Sita and Courtney- I think there is some miscommunications and misunderstandings going on here. I know this is and has been an EXTREMELY high stress situation, and that does not help things in the least. To someone on the outside it sounds like there were misunderstandings between you two and between Courtney and the venue, then that lead to further misunderstandings between the venue and Sita. Courntey I'm not sure what these inappropriate comments were that you claim were directed towards you in said emails, but keep in mind that high stress can do crazy things to people. Considering I think Sita is handling this as well as she can. However if you two still feel betrayed by the other just step back for a while and cool off. Going off at each other isn't going to help anything, and you may regret your words later. Just remember you guys are working on the same side. I genuinely hope you can work out these miscommunications and misunderstandings and reconcile.

Since this topic was started based on a rumor and only stirring up more drama and misunderstandings here as well, I am closing it. Please discuss further WMA concerns in the other topic.
