So I'm sorry if this is the wrong place. Please move it if it is.
Like a lot of the mers here I am all for saving the environment and not polluting our earth but I have really sensitive teeth and need straws or its hard to drink cold things. Well I decided to get a glass straw so I wouldn't contribute so the plastic pollution. I went on esty and found this adorable octopus straw!! Its made by Fullblownglass http://www.etsy.com/shop/FullBlownGlass and they make a lot of octopus things. Pictures cannot show how adorable this is!!

That's so cool! Saving that link to my favorites... right... now. :D
Oh my, that's amazing! And why didn't I know about glass straws?!? I have sensitive teeth as well, and I've just been biting the bullet with the cold drinks (or letting them sit out to room temp, which is kind of gross) rather than use plastic straws... Oh man, now I so need an octopus glass straw! Not to mention it lets me carry around a *legal* piece of glass artwork! I love handblown glass that's functional but... er... most "functional" glass is not always legal, nor needed.

Aww adorable! It would make a fantastic hair stick... if it were not on something hollow. hehe.

Wait, so that's a drinking straw? I think I would be worried about it breaking.

Apparently glass straws are really durable. I think someone mentioned in the free glass straw thread that she dropped hers on the ground and there wasn't even a scratch. I still haven't used mine yet, but I think I'll take it with me when me and my friends go out for tea soon!

Oh, What a good Idea... Maybe I should get the pod together for tea. ^_^

Saddly the glass they used on this one was not very strong. I bought two and broke both. The artistry was beautifully done but not durable for a clumsy mer like me. :(

Yep, I've dropped mine twice now and there's not a scratch to be found. the glass dharma straws are made from the same material as Pyrex ware and are very durable. I think glass dharma also has some sort of guarantee that if it breaks, they'll send you a replacement.
As Dacora said though, her straws were probably not made from the same stuff. If you're a clumsy person like me, get the glass dharma straws. They're pretty plain in comparison, but they're still quite stylish.
If you ever look into other companies to buy a straw, check out their materials and ask questions :)
Dacora- how thick would you say your straws were before they broke? That's so sad, they were adorable.
Edit- I looked up the vendor you mentioned, and they list borosilicate glass (sp?) rods as being their material, which is what mine is also made from. Did you contact the vendor about your broken straws?

I did but it was my fault both times that they broke so I didn't ask for a refund or anything. As for the thickness ill have to look. I kept the part with the octopus caz it was so cute. Ill see if I can find it.

Octopus Dimensions: 1 1/2" x 3/4"
That is weird that its made from the same stuff yet mine broke. Maybe Im too clumsy? :p
Im almost tempted to buy another and see if I can be extra careful with it. I just adore the octopus on them.
