Hello :)

My name is Mia - I live in London in the UK and I'm very new to the world of Mermaiding! (although like any little girl I used to pretend I was a mermaid when I was at the beach: and still like to make-believe, even in the bathtub!)

I work freelance as an entertainer and performer, specialising in Cabaret (dance and singing) but have also worked on films, plays, musicals, soaps, etc...

I would really like to learn more about becoming a professional Mermaid - any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, and if there was anyone around my neck of the woods who would be interested in a skills-swap I'd love to meet you.

Many Thanks
Mia

I've been on your website for nearly an hour now I think. You are so wonderful at the dancing you do. Good luck finding a local mermaid to help! A good starting point is a tail, and by the looks of it you could possibly figure out a way to incorporate a mermaid into one of the many performances you provide. It would be neat to see a flashy glamorous burlesque style tail!

Aah, thank you everyone :)

And Koral: I was going to do an actual Mermaid act many years ago (mermaid gaining her legs storyline) but I never finished it - though a super-sparkly Burlesque-style tail would look fabulous underwater wouldn't it?!

Can I ask a couple of questions? I understand if people don't want to answer:

*Do you need to be diver trained?
*Where's the best place to learn and how do you approach clubs/pools for training: "Excuse me, I want to be a mermaid..." :P
*I am insured as a performer - do I need to get specialist insurance or would this be something to look into when/if I ever get booked?

Thank you in advance :)

Mia you do not need to be diver trained. There are alot of us in here that are not. An as to learn if you have a monofin just ask your local pools or where you can swim if they allow monofins there. Now as for insurance I am not 100% sure. I think that the best person I know that would know the answer to that would be Raina. But before you ask her look at this link is should give you all the information you need.
