I always respected and admired Shelly, but now her "posse" is feeling the need to attack me all because I used a leopard pattern (that I have had FOR A WHILE, that Raina also pointed out) But I'm stealing. I totally ripped off Sora's tail according to these people. One, it looks NOTHING like Sora's tail and I had no idea who this person was until today. Two, it's LEOPARD PRINT! No one OWNS leopard print! COME ON!

I'm just really confused as to what you're being accused of copying. That's essentially what I said in my comment, and I said it politely, but my comment was deleted and I was blocked from Aela's page, which is disappointing.
I'd still like clarification. Is the issue that the tail was made by putting dragonskin over painted neoprene? (something that's been going on for at least 8 years, and Stevi actually makes hers out of dragonskin. I mean, didn't mertailor accuse Shelly of stealing that method from him?) Or is the issue that leopard print was used?
I appreciate that people feel sensitive about their tails- maybe it doesn't bother me that much because I chose a tail scheme that is re-made by the majority of tail makers out there (splash design).

Honestly, if you had all these extra things and colours, I could see the issue. Sora's tail is pretty damn unique and I can appreciate she doesn't want someone ripping her off. That's totally a 100% legit concern. But you can't own leopard print, just like you can't own spots or stripes or spirals etc. Not to mention, this tail was done aprox 3 months ago (according to the fB posting) and Stev's had her latex tail of the exact same design simply made out of latex up for A YEAR. So if we're accusing people of stealing traits, she had hers up first.

I get it, I really do. And I get Aela for standing up for her friend Shelly, because I've done the same thing when I feel people have stolen Raven's work. But seriously, anyone can see these are not the same tail. Why stir up so much drama and hate over something like that, when there are bigger fish to fry?

Anyone who actually changes their opinion of a woman for the worse after merely being shown her body without her consent is sick, but it looks like you already know this stuff luckily.

And as someone with a fair amount of computer knowledge and whose had friends with a terrifying level of programming/hacking ability, I'm quite sure this Matt guy is a bullshitter. If there are public photos on websites that are accessible to anyone, those of course are not too hard to get if you want to waste lots of time looking, but not even the cops have some mythological program that can immediately bring up any image of you or text or email that has ever existed. If they could, the cyber crimes unit wouldn't be so busy.

If people block you but you're still reading the page you can't see the responses of people who have blocked you. I can't see any of Chris's posts from my perspective, or Matthews. You can see where the screen caps have been cut, and you can tell certain posts are not there not from cutting, but from not even showing up to Stevi. Look i am all for professionalism and the fact that your going to go to the tailmaker that has the style and choices that you want...PERIOD. but the fact that this guy is calling her the c-word (which no woman should be called by anyone!) and bullying her by making fun of her looks and everything...is not right. plenty of teenagers kill themselves for this same stuff. its upsetting to me just to see it.

and its sad because we all have the same passion : mermaids! there is going to be competition between two mermaids in one state, mermaid tail makers, etc but that doesn't mean that we have to belittle each other over everything and anything.
Mermaid Shelly did not get into the conversation in any way...so whose to say that she is mad or not. it doesn't matter.
Stevi was looking to better her tails because she had complaints from her customers. cudos to stevi by trying to better her business and keep her customers happy...that is a smart and good business owner.

That's what people do on FB when they don't want to have any communication with you :p I have people blocked, people have me blocked, it happens, especially with people who are vocal about a variety of things. It generally saves a lot of stress in the long run. You don't have to try and ignore a person, you literally don't see any of their stuff so the ignoring is done for you. :) You don't even have to think about it.

I can't help but voice my opinion here because im not about to do it on FB but Chris just said "Shell did this technique FIRST, and no one else has done it until now." ok well 18hrs ago on shell's FB (professional mind you) said that she was bringing back the silicone on neoprene tails. so at some point she must have stopped doing it right? and now she is starting it up again. hey i am all for different types of tails pricey and budget concious. but lets just keep in mind here that she had stopped making them and after hearing that someone is usiing a similar technique, she started making them again.

i am trying so hard not to get into the fb thing and post a non-bias comment because even those posting non-bias comments are getting slandered. What irritates me is that Chris states that his opinions has no way of conflicting with the business shelly does. ok sure. but he is her partner....that comes with responsiblites as well. like not letting things get to you that people can use against you...right?

Not to mention, Back when I was trying to make my own tail, I actually got some advice from Shelly on how to do it, and she was really sweet about it.
There are only 2 ways to make a silicone tail, to my knowledge:
1)Molds
2)Silicone on neoprene with the peel away fishnet texturing.

Shelly and Stevi do lovely work. and they're states away from each other. In fact I have a goal to someday own something from each of my favorite tailmakers.

Wouldn't it be nifty if certain tailmakers got together and collaborated on a project? Or if they built a nationwide business together with outlets near every great swim location? (maybe that last part was a little too mainstream, but you see what I'm saying, right?)

EITHER WAY This style of doing tails has been talked about since the mer-yuku days. Give me a break already. Painting the neoprene and then putting silicone or latex over top of it, is not new. You can't copyright it, I sat here and defended Shelly for this very reasons last year, and now we're flipping it? Sometimes the drama in this community makes zero sense. No body is trying to make you buy from one tail-maker only. You can have preference, but i think publicly 'bashing' a tailmaker in the way that almost everyone did in this post, is bulling. Bulling comes from cowardice and insecurity.

Man that computer program quip is such bullshit. The amount of time and processing power a program would need for that is way too much for what our current level of expertise internationally can do. Also even if there was a program to do that it would take forever to go through all the stuff on the internet and on people's crap.

I would know because I once used a keylogger on someone (shh...). I eventually had to terminate it because the amount of RAM and memory and all that stuff... was WAY too much for a commercial computer to handle. You'd need like a lot of money and space and time dedicated to just one person to accomplish that, and I wasn't even looking for photos, just my name. Something at the scale the poster mentioned requires an obsession.

HP can't even get their own facial tracking software to work for black people yet, and that's just for webcams.

I don't want to take sides but I think that maybe... well... um... this might be starting more drama posting it here, and because it makes me want to leave mernetwork(Don't want to be a mer with drama involved but I understand because how can you control it?). It's horrible that adults call other adults names because names still hurt whether you're a merling or a full grown mer and I'm sorry it's occurring again. I think the best thing you can do is to kill them (whoever it is that's harassing you) with kindness. Or you can just ignore them all together and realize that they're doing this out of jealousy or maybe they're loosing business. I guess all I'm saying is I'm sorry this is happening again and ignore them because even though it hurts when they say mean things to you it doesn't change on the other side (it probably hurts for them too. Unfortunately, I think one of the big reasons why people post on mernetwork about these types of issues is because people on FB simply delete comments and make an argument very one sides. A lot of times people feel this is their way to share their side of the story. It's a sad reality of our community- but it tends to be the same group of people over and over again (myself included). So I don't want people to think it's mernetwork, or the community, it's not. It's a few people who have issues with each other and can't seem to move on. I know I try to move on a lot, take breaks when I need to, block people, ignore them, etc. But some times your sense of morals and justice tells you it's just not right and SOMEONE needs to say something. I just really think it's sad when people take it upon themselves to represent a business, and then go act and act this way, because it goes against your business. It's all searchable online. People lose business, it does more harm for the community and the individuals in the long run. I have been personally making a really big effort to move past things with certain people. I try to show support to mermaid businesses, include people in tail flip and make sure everyone is represented (I dont *have* to do that, it's my mag, but I choose to be fair) I don't go bad mouthing people, and I don't make common friends feel like they need to choose. But sadly, other people aren't that proactive. I really feel sometimes like some people just *want* to be angry, or maybe are angry by default and need to be constantly creating reasons to validate that anger. When you spend all your time online stalking other mers, trying to frame other mers, flinging insults, attacking etc (these are examples from all across the board that we've seen recently) I gotta wonder what is going on in your life that you're so miserable and obsessed it's the way you choose to spend your time. Put that energy to good use!

I maintain what I said on another mer's page. We don't need to like each other, we don't need to get along. but we have much more in common than we do different. I think there's a point where people have valid complaints, but I also think there's a point when people go out of their way to take something insignificant and spin it around to make it seem like the most offensive thing ever. I think we're all just so exhausted from it -_- it's fine to say "people need to move on from drama" but it only ever works if all the people involved do it- which never happens. Every time I work hard to move on, I find the other people take that as a "time to kick you when you're down!" moment because they KNOW you're not going to address anything they do.

I feel bad for Stevi for this, people involved think we're best buds when the truth is we barley know each other. I have her as a friend on FB as some of you do and can certainly validate she didn't know who the majority of these people were, let alone willingly make any effort to rip them off in some way.
