So, Elena (my bff) and I came up with this new mer concept that, when on land, mers have toenails the same color as their tails. What do you think? Is it legit?

This is an interesting thought :thinks:. But I wonder how well it would far for guys to go around with there nails painted?

ignoring the male comment (vallee) lol. i saw a picture of a girl that had painted finger nails like scales. it looked pretty sweet.

pretty cool huh?
in "Aquamarine" (2006) she had her fingernails and toenails painted and when her mood changed so did her fingernail polish. or as she pointed out "my human scales changed color!"

@vallee
well as long as the ends of the finger nails look positively chewed into distorted shapes; and the colours are not too bright and fantastic... then why not. Any colour which matches with dirt and grease under the finger nails will look positively dashing.
And just why cant guys wear decent nail varnish if it is for special effects / performances?

As for special effects / performances is one thing. But as an everyday thing that might be a different story.

Nail polish isn't uncommon for artsy types, and more punk guys, for that matter.
I think ultimately, though, it doesn't make much sense (does that mean that merfolk haven't learned about nail polish in all their time sunning themselves on the rocks and admiring their reflections in mirrors and combing their hair... it seems a bit unlikely), but who am I to stand in the way of coordinated nail polish? Besides, the Tail of Emily Windsnap had pockets in it (are mermaids marsupials?) which seems even more unlikely than appropriately colored nail polish.

I like the idea, only I'm still working on my tail.
There is this awesome trick I learned a while ago to make your nails look like they have realistic scales with glitter.
I'll go do my nails and show you guuyss~
Can't wait to see them, Nyx :). On the subject of nails, a fun mermaid/beachy kind of thing I like to do is put on clear, and then sprinkle on sand! After you put a top coat of clear it looks super cool :D

i just put on clear nail polish so that when the sunlight its my nail it looks watery -^^-
Weee~ after a few hours of procrastinating I finally did them.
They are a bit messy, I'm not the best at painting my nail <XD
but I hope I can get the concept across.

To do this I usually use two nail polish colors, plus a clear coat, and two sets of round shaped glitter (colored and clear).
I put two layers of the darker color on first, then the color glitter.
Then I put on one thin coat of the lighter polish, and clear glitter.
Then I'll top it all with the clear coat~!
Sometimes I might add a little bit of clear glitter on-top of the clear coat for effect.
It looks a LOT shinier in person, and underwater it looks like a dream > w< <3.
My biggest draw back is that it's very messy.
OH! ALSO, make sure to put the glitter on the coats of nail polish while it is still somewhat wet so they can stick.
Super pretty! :thumbs-up:

Pretty Nyx. That's exactly how I was doing my nails, but with blue glitter over teal varnish.
That said, I was already matching my toenails to my tail. Now that I am going gold, I will be buying some gold glitter and a new bottle of my coppery polish as the undercoat. So, I agree it's a good idea. ;)

That is very pretty, but I don't see myself wearing something like that. Now for women I am all for it, cause it adds to the illusion. But as for me to wear something like that I would need alot of persuading .

LOL then don't do it! Girls get to have all the fun with this idea. :P
Otherwise I'd say wear a tail necklace that matches your tail.
Or do what I do and just claim to be a selkie-like mermaid and you stash your skin under your bed and get possessive when people go near it when it's off by the pool, for fear of never returning to the ocean. With a latex or silicone tail, this statement is very believable to kids. Don't ask how they know about selkies though... smart little tykes.

Isn't there a mood nail polish? (nail polish that changes color like a mood ring)

There is... or at least it claims to be. The only ones I have seen are ones that are one color, but turn two different shades. They say that it changes shades with your mood, but you don't have only two moods, and the polish can't feel heat through your nails. When you are in the sun/warmer temperature opposed to a colder area, however, it does change. I have a few of those and they do look cool, but don't change with your mood.

While looking on the same page I also found this. It's finger nail polish just for men. A little pricy if you ask me.

The glitter looks really cool, makes it look like scales :) The glitter is such a pain to get off though :P it tears up the cotton when you try to take it off

before using glitter polish , paint your nails with a very thun layer of elmers glue..let it dry, then paint . when you remove the glitter nailpolish, just lift the glue layer up. It will peel off like a sticker. Also great for dark colors tht can stain nails, or stain skin when trying to remove :)

I got my nails done recently with calgel (it's a type of gel) and the artist used these circular pieces of film that reflect green ontop of my blue nails (among other fun things on different nails). I've had a few random people and some friends tell me my nails make them think of a mermaid/the ocean ^^ So I think doing your nails is an epic idea!
