I think some of you may have seen my thread a while back about being in a financial dilema, and possibly having to turn to my boss for help. Most of you advised me against it, but in the end I had no choice so I borrowed from him. I knew in my heart it was a bad idea, and boy was I right. He has been taking a portion of my tips each night as repayment, which is fine, except for the issue of his family, his temper, and the things we (myself and coworkers) do that piss him off. It's all a pretty long story, so I'll call upon the most recent incident- but first, a little background. My boss and his mom, dad, and two uncles are the soul of the restaurant. His family cooks, does dishes, ect... kitchen staff stuff. His mom is tiny, has a hand that doesn't work well (which I didn't know until recently) and works like a damn slave. He's intensely protective of her. Me, I live about ten minutes from work, which usually turns into 15-20 because of elk/deer in the road, slow drivers, ect.... I usually cut it pretty close on time as far as getting there at 5 because I can't leave until my husband gets home to be with the girls. I totally admit that walking in a couple minutes late fairly often is not acceptable, which is why I am trying to find a sitter who will come for only a half hour to an hour. Lastly, recently the entire schedule was flipped around so one of the girls can work days and be at the bus stop to meet her kids at 4:30. So she MUST leave at four. This leaves a 30-60 minute gap where my boss is basically on his own. (also something I recently learned. I thought he had that gap covered) so here's how my Thursday and Friday last week went. I was SICK, but I came in anyway.(no one to cover me). And, I was three minutes late. When I walked in, I saw mama out trying to clear tables. It was obvious there had been a rush and there was a ton to do, so I got right on it and started getting everything caught up. But I knew my boss was FURIOUS. It was very very obvious. Roughly five minutes after I came in, my other coworker walked in. We both got everything that was behind done in just a few minutes. Then we got called into the kitchen where my boss went absolutely APE SHIT on us. He was screaming that, in a nutshell, "I'm sick of your effing crap, I don't give an eff how sick you are, how dare you eff with me, I'll eff with you right back, I had better never see my mom out in the dining room cleaning again, you're ever sick or late again you're effing fired," (edited for content, there was A LOT of swearing). He screamed it all at the top of his lungs. About an hour later, he cornered just me and screamed at me for two or three minutes. At the end of the shift, we both got it all over again. The next night, it was myself, the gal I had worked with the night before and the gal who usually works days. Once again, we all got our asses chewed. This time he asked us how we feel about it. I kept my mouth shut. One gal tho, who is also Chinese, actually spoke up. It was all it Chinese, but he told us what she was saying.... "It's not fair for you to scram at us, if your mom needs more help why doesn't she ask, we work really hard," He told us his mom isn't the type to ask for help, and that we need to be more aware of little stuff we could be doing to make things easier for her, like clearing dish trays and making spring rolls, or chopping lemons and chives. He could have just told us this, in my opinion. I for one didn't need it screamed in my ear four times in two days.
So here's why I partnered with Melaleuca. I finally found a natural product that I can afford, and I totally believe in it, and I can make this a business from home. I need to be able to get out of there as soon as my boss is payed back. I can't take any more yelling. I just can't. I'm not going to quit before I have him paid back, but that day is coming soon and I MUST have another option. I'm not usually the type to put myself out there like this, but that's the reason I put up the thread in the classifieds. I really want to get this off the ground, and I know how amazing Melaleuca is. So there it is. It's time to make a huge change and quickly. Wish me luck!
