And I'm talking about a big fluffy cat, not a shark hehe!

I had the idea after I went to the movies and saw 'Life of Pi'. I fell in love with tigers and decided to make a tail based off of their fur! So, it is going to be a simple painted spandex tail that I can just swim around in until summer when I get my silicone. I have my design all ready and am planning on getting my fabric at Jo-Annes tomorrow (Black Friday!) I might add fins, but not planning on it yet... Hope you guys like how it turns out and I'll keep you all posted :)

If anyone is still interested, I have a few pictures of the extended fluke!

I used a Wave Monofin, Plastic Mesh, and old plastic binder and duct tape - tons of it!!

Here is the main layout

Here you can see the two materials i used: Plastic Mesh on the left, plastic binder cover on the right

I kinda forgot to take more pics, I got a little carried away haha! I can't say that the fluke shape is amazing, but i'm growing to like it. Because I am a mer on a super tight budget, the only new materials I'm buying are the spandex and the paints. The fluke shape was really the only one that worked with my limited amount of materials. Oh, and before I forget, I got the idea of the binder cover from our very own, TheOceanBlue, so thank you for that!

Thanks! So far the monofin mod is holding up pretty well, and the fabric should be here by this weekend :)

I'll forward Jadestone's warning I've seen her pass on before. Have the duct tape go further up the monofin blade so that there's more room if any detachments occurs. I'll be doing the zip tie + duct tape method myself when I get my new gold tail. :)

Thank you very much! I'll make sure I do that :)

What Koral said--and I'd also put some length-wise as a "seal" along the outer edges of the tape where you cut it to shape if you haven't already. This will stop water form getting between the layers even better. I don't know if it's necessary or not, but anything to help them hold up better, eh?

I like the shape though! Can't wait to see how the design transitions onto fabric :)

Ok! So my fabric is scheduled to arrive on December 5! And great news: I found out I have 40 dollars (gift card) to the craft store near where I live!!!! So when I need to go and buy paints, I can use those :) That means that when I'm done with this tail, I'll have only spent 18 dollars on it! Super happy! :yay:
