Hi everybody! I'm Willow. Nice to meet you! I've been looking on this website for months now and I only just decided that I would make my own account. Not sure what was holding me back before, but whatever! I guess I should introduce myself... I'm 16 years old and live in California. I've lived here all my life, so I'm a little naive on the subject of other places but hey, that's okay right? I attend an art school in Santa Ana, and my focus is acting. I've got an older sister and ten pets. I had always been interested in mermaids. Along with a few friends, I started a whole long and complicated play-pretend story in which we were all mermaids with special powers. Every time we swam together, we swam like mermaids. One of my mermaid friends, Bailey, decided that she and her friends would make a mermaid "show" for YouTube, similar to H2o (Check it out if you like, it's called Fire Ice Just Add Water, but no judging! haha :) ). Bailey decided to ask me to sew her a tail, since I sew. I was overjoyed to hear that she wanted me to make her one, and jumped on it. Her tail was turquoise and made from swim/dancewear cloth I found in Joann's. It came out wonderfully! I was so encouraged by the success that I decided to make one of my own. It was green and a huge success as well. I wore it everywhere. Some of my friends, upon hearing about my tail, decided they wanted tails of their own! I have since made five tails for various friends and even my older sister. Recently, I decided that my tail, now over a year old, looked a little worse for wear. The small sparkles that are incorporated into the cloth were wearing off, leaving it dull and black in some places. there were holes, and the seams were, frankly, a little amateur. I set out ono a journey to make a new one and completed it only days ago. It is updated to fit me better, made with a slightly different cloth, and had a monofin with a better fluke shape. I'm still trying to start a business of these tails that I hope to use to raise money for a real, professional tail made of silicone or the like. Although I am saving up, a sixteen year old with no job is not really the best for raising up to 3,000 dollars. Progress is virtually none so far, but I'm trying. Someday I hope to become something of a professional Mermaid. Being an actor and a strong swimmer, I think that it would be a dream job. Currently, I am applying myself to my school and in my free time, wearing my tail to the lake by my house and talking with small children, telling tales of my mermaid home and reinstating a belief in mermaids in the younger generation. Someday I hope to make that my job, but who knows? In any case, it's a fun hobby. I hope that the mermaids here understand and share my dreams and beliefs, as I'm sure they will. I hope I didn't bore you with my novel-sized post! ^-^ It's nice to finally have a place where I can discuss my mermaiding with people who understand. I hope to get to know all of you a little better! :)

Welcome Willow! I think it's great you've spread the mer-love by making tails for your friends! You sound a little discouraged about saving money for your professional tail, but every little bit helps! With the new mermaid fad coming in, if you put yourself out there I bet you'd get a lot of customers. I hope this site can provide you with good tips and inspiration for your tails as well :)

Thanks for the warm welcome! Raina: i know, i'm surprised i don't know more people on here. :) and i don't know the rest of y'alls names, but thank you! i am trying to save up, and i'm getting closer. the only problem i have with selling tails is that it's going to be difficult to send them in the mail, and i also don't know how to use paypal and whatnot (basically i have no idea what i'm doing hahaha :) ) I'm hoping that i can get tips not only on making tails but also things like expanding my lung capacity and finding places that will let me perform (ie will any aquariums let me swim around in their tanks, malls with fountains i can sit in etc) or job opportunities in my community etc. I' so glad I found this place! :) thanks again! :)
