Mer-Portraits

Hey there to all my fellow merfolk.

I was toying around with the idea of painting portraits of fellow mers in their tails in watercolor as perhaps a way to start saving money for a nice realistic tail (especially since I have no job at the moment and will be in an internship that will keep me from being able to get a job). No idea on pricing yet, since I don't usually sell my work I have no idea what it would be worth.

I was wondering if there would be a few mers who would allow me to use some of their photos for practice. I would like to try a few different styles, especially with backgrounds and adding things in, and I have never been too keen on painting myself. If you would like to help me, please let me know by replying to this thread! Send me a link to a photo and I will see what I can do with it. If it works, maybe I will start doing them for commissions, but I wont know until I try.

I think its great to hear your going into this. as for price.. well look around at other portraits to get ideas of pricing.

I called the image "Laughter Ring" after my favorite childhood book (http://www.amazon.com/Laughter-Ring-Song-Stephen-Cosgrove/dp/1558680322/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313214772&sr=8-1) that was about a common dolphin (Laughter Ring) and her family.

So I am NOT happy with the sky and will probably repaint it and fix other things that are bothering the crud out of me, but I know the mermaid who wanted this wants to see it ;)

Both portraits are beautiful, Taylor's mermaid has innocent look :) Flicking her tail and whatnot in the breeze, its too cute :)

I am actually quite disappointed in Taylor's Cheesecake mermaid, even though she loves it. I am making a second attempt at it and changing the environment just a little.

Just not sure what is wrong with my abilities lately. I just need to paint more, it seems.
