Hi, I'm a bit of a phantom on the network pages and have never actually posted due to being mostly online for moments at a time since I'm often overwhelmed with work and my mom having been in and out of the hospital a lot of late, but...I daresay I am fairly certain this is my tail that's been on order since early April. Squeeeeeeeeek. Somehow it is posting this not under the photo I am responding to (bottom pic in post 3965), but it is the blue, green and gold close up pic of a fluke from instagram I am referring to.

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone's heard from Raven lately? I briefly spoke to her after I paid for my top and she was going to come up with a tentative date of completion for me, but I haven't heard back since and that was a couple of weeks ago now. I know how busy she is and if she's not responding it's probably because she's off doing actual work, so I don't want to bug her. I'm giving her room to breathe and take the time she needs, but I would like to have an idea of when it will be finished so I can plan accordingly. Especially since I'm moving at the end of summer. So yeah, has anyone heard from her as of late?

I think she appreciates your patience. To compare timeframes, Raven went for about a month between telling me that she would send concept sketches for my top and sending the aforementioned sketches, so a couple of weeks isn't long enough to become worried. This is especially true if you've already paid; Raven told me that after I paid for the tail that she was going to 'disappear' and go very quite for awhile, and that this was so she would have time to do the actual physical work. This "awhile" can be upwards of half a year, so you can rest assured that you have done your part in the meantime.

A top will of course take less time than a tail, but as summer's end is less than three months away I would send Raven an email with your new address if she doesn't contact you first within the next few weeks. Since you will be paying shipping anyway, you have plenty of time to clarify where the top needs to go.

A top can sometimes take a while too, like a tail order. To give you an idea. I ordered my tops, 1st one at the end of December and second in the beginning of January, and I am still waiting. I haven't heard from Raven going on three months now. I know she has had some difficulties and I've told her I am in no hurry, so for her to take her time. Waiting for a Merbella creation is a waiting game, but very rewarding as I feel that no maker can compare to her attention to detail.

Melissa - LOL. Yes, unless someone ordered that same color scheme and a custom fluke like that about the same time as me, I believe it is. I am dying to see the whole thing. I am super intrigued by the idea of your sea dragony Mer on Fire tail and can't wait to see yours either!!!

Waikiki Mer - I ordered a top last summer and it took about three months and there was little to no communication involved at all save explaining to her the coloration I wanted. Raven keeps her word, you just have to be very patient.

Topical Hunger Games reference aside however, I am now feeling like a VERY OLD Gold (Fire Angel Sea) Dragon, for despite downloading iTunes, creating an AppleID, and downloading Instagram so that I might join the exclusive "I downloaded Instagram for the sole purpose of seeing Raven's Merbella Studios posts club" I simply cannot access it. Oh well; I knew in 2001 that my decision not to buy a mobile phone due to their being so expensive and causing cancer would come back to bite me one day, and though that day has at last come I cannot complain considering that it took 13 years to do so!

So I'm even MORE appreciative of the lovely Raina's keeping us so updated on here! :mermaid kiss: That is the most realistic "nude" tail I have ever seen!

I thought that if I was crazy enough, I would have taken that spot right away because I can afford buying another performance tail (the first one being a finfolk tail) but in fact, I'm not that crazy. I really shouldn't spend all my savings for a second tail. Maybe next year when I will be richer. Then, I might consider it.

She posted it on her personal FB, so that's why you guys are confused. We generally try not to talk about stuff she posts on her personal FB, cause if she wanted the entire community to know she'd post it somewhere public. A lot of times she posts on her personal FB or Instagram and we ask others not to share those pics until she releases it publicly. Which is why you may see people squeeing over something and say they can't wait till she posts it to the Merbellas Page/Instagram so they can actually share it :)

Anyway- Basically she just posed that she took on a new client and that she's super excited about the design.

it always amazes me what Raven is able to do. Most big tail makers now have a team of people and she's still just trucking along by herself lol. Once in a while her husband helps. She's taking my measurements tonight, we're going to do it over Skype. Almost time to start my tail. I am very excited and I know she'll create something amazing. :)

Just trying to track timelines and gauge how far along my already ordered tail is in the production line ...You ordered your tail in February and Raven is now starting to craft it? Is that correct? I am doing my best to be patient, but it is hard. :P
Also, does she always do measurements over skype? I am a little terrified I am doing it wrong, so I wondered about that too.

I know how you feel it's day 375 for me I emailed her about a week ago and she hasn't answered yet. Each tail that's done is a tail closer to us getting ours and another dream coming true! It can be very frustrating to wait though haha. Beautiful top Evolet I'm excited for you dear :)

No, in most of Raven's personal tails she has a Finis Foil as the competitor is difficult to maneuver in her tank.

the competitor does not fit in her tank. She wore my tail once for a photo shoot (I encouraged her to) and it kept popping out and was super hard to swim with. My new tail from her will have a foil so I can choose between the two tails/monofins. I love love love my competitor but it is a real pain for turning (I have to take wide turns) and for underwater modelling (hard to fit it into the frame I am limited in my poses) and can be a pain in smaller wading pools as I bump into everyone with it. But nothing makes a fin slap on the surface quite like a competitor ;) and it's also awesome for big pools, lakes, and oceans!

*Thinks its really cool to have Sainthood delivered like a Knighthood...lol* :mermaid kiss: Now in order to actually be a Saint, one needs to have a) died and b) have 3 recorded miracles involving one's intercession (1 for Beatification, 1 or 2 more for Canonization), however it was common for people such as Saint Teresa of Avila to refer to certain religious people as living saints and patience is certainly a saintly quality!

I havent heard from her since then and her online activity has been almost non-existant so Im sure she's up to her gills in mermaid work. >.> (the last thing I saw from her personal facebook was from July 11. She hasnt made a peep online anywhere else since that I see! And that was the last time she and I spoke too, hope she's not ill!)

I also heard from another mermaid that there is a shortage of competitor monifins right now (not sure if this is affecting her or not) because Finis gets some of their supplies for their competitor out of the ukraine and well, all the stuff going on over there. I guess another monofin company just couldn't offer one of their monofins anymore because they couldnt get them and didnt have a stock pile.

Raven and I both have autoimmune disorder which means it is far easier for us to get sick than the average person and stress makes it much worse. What a normal person can get through in days takes us weeks

I thought that if I was crazy enough, I would have taken that spot right away because I can afford buying another performance tail (the first one being a finfolk tail) but in fact, I'm not that crazy. I really shouldn't spend all my savings for a second tail. Maybe next year when I will be richer. Then, I might consider it.

I just caught up with Raven and rest assured they're planning a massive flood of updates. They had to use a loaner phone for a while as her phone/laptop are broken. (her laptop's been broken for a while, she frequently busts phone by having them around her tail making gear) :D so all of you who have been waiting should hear some stuff/ see some stuff in the next little while. They've been going flat out. (this is her first appearance online since July 11th- been too busy working!)

There's just something about Raven's tails that makes you fall in love with them no matter the design, color, fins, price, or anything else she does to them.

I havent heard from her since then and her online activity has been almost non-existant so Im sure she's up to her gills in mermaid work. >.> (the last thing I saw from her personal facebook was from July 11. She hasnt made a peep online anywhere else since that I see! And that was the last time she and I spoke too, hope she's not ill!)

I also heard from another mermaid that there is a shortage of competitor monifins right now (not sure if this is affecting her or not) because Finis gets some of their supplies for their competitor out of the ukraine and well, all the stuff going on over there. I guess another monofin company just couldn't offer one of their monofins anymore because they couldnt get them and didnt have a stock pile.

I find it interestng how world issues can affect the tailmaking business. Interesting. Anyways I hope Raven feels much better soon! All the best for her recovery.

I knew about it earlier but Raven hates giving everyone excuses so I was asked not to say anything.

She was discharged yesterday but her illness got worse and tail making just is impossible until she's healthy. After getting sicker Tyler and I decided to let everyone know.

^^ one of the reasons I'd never try to make a silicone or latex product myself.

I'm really anxious about toxic fumes and stuff. Threw out several monofins, diving suits, and tons of clothes because of it.
Guess there is a total overload if you're a manufacturer.

And it sounds like she should rethink how many of these orders she is willing to take on in a given space of time.

I think she just hates giving people excuses. She knows she takes a long time, and doesnt want to add insult to injury by rattling off a list of excuses you know? Im always encouraging her to just tell clients lol. But she gets intense with the tail making and pulls long hauls without breaks and tries super hard to just get it all done.

We've had a few chats recently about her work load and she does feel like she has a better understanding for the future on what she can and cant do. I think it just always comes down to she wants to make people happy so sometimes she takes on more than she should.

Anyway I know right before this she was doing a huge amount of work and just about caught up so that she would be on time for the next batch. So if those of you who are overdue/due right now can just show a little patience I know she will have something amazing for you :) once she's healthy she'll have an easier time getting stuff done- she'll be working at full capacity!

I also ask that she move other, easier/simpler ones ahead of my ambitious design so as to satisfy more people and minimize her exposure to harmful chemicals. Aww don't worry Michelle I think she was just about ready for ours when she got sick. I know they take precautions with chemicals these things just always hit people with autoimmune disorders a lot harder. I checked in with her today and she is feeling a little better and finally stopped vomiting. She's on antibiotics and just resting up and sipping fluids and taking it easy. Her husband and I ganged up on her to make her rest lol.

She doesn't post many updates online so I think people don't always have an accurate look at how much she does. Tail orders aside people send tails back for touchups and alterations all the time and have a time limit for when they need it back.

She has turned down Hollywood opportunities cuz she's just so busy - that should tell ya something lol.

I wish I could a hopped a plane and surprised her. I'm glad she's finally stopping. And honestly I don't think it'll push her too much later cuz she's been working half capacity for a while in terms of energy.

I just skyped with Raven :) she's feeling a bit better and catching up on stuff. She showed me some of the stuff like holy cow she's working on a lot >.> no wonder she got sick. I'd like to say as her friend, thank you to everyone being so patient and wonderful. I think this taught her a lot about how much she can handle and how hard she can work. I think all of us are going to get fin-tastic tails in the long run because of it. She's doing her absolute best to catch up while still staying healthy and I fully believe that once she is caught up she'll have an easier time in the future.

It would be more than a typical scale top, because the accents are thick silicone and there's a process involved in getting them on (especially if you chose ones with the straps)- But so far I haven't seen any posted prices.

So I'm pretty excited, I got an update picture of my tail a few days ago! The only reason I haven't shared is because there were a couple concerns with the design and I'm unsure if anything will be changed and want to share the final image. I feel horrible for bringing up concerns since she is recovering from being in the hospital :-/ but hopefully everything gets straightened out and Raven stays healthy! :)

WOW I'm so thrilled for you, I think you had the longest wait of all. (And your tail is one of my absolute favorites! It just looks so REAL! :swoon:)


But I’m also a bit jealous… because my boyfriend just surprised me with a trip to Croatia in the second week of September.
I would love to have my tail by then. It’s the last opportunity the swim until next spring (thanks to stupid indoor pools who think the silicon will contaminate the water :doh:) and the mean reason is I’m a landlocked Mer and I won’t be able to swim in the ocean with my tail for at least 3 years.

I’m so torn right now, should I email Raven if she can finish mine till then… but I really don’t want her to overwork again.

If you think about it, anatomically it makes more sense then the tails we normally see. On fish the "heel" fins are on the same side (typically) as the belly of the fish. Interesting take on it IMO.

They're ankle fins! A few of her other tails have them too but I think people found them trickier when they were right on the side of the ankle (I know personally from rolling the tail down etc) A lot of people opt for them to hide ankle bumps.


I really like the spots. A girl at a party yesterday told me how much she liked my spots. I told her they were mermaid freckles.


Im so glad Raven is catching up on everyone. I was talking to her about one of the girls here who had been waiting over a year for the basic tail. It got pushed for a few reasons and then everytime Raven got caught up to it she'd improved her skills so much she wanted to change and fix things to make it better to her standards XD lol. She showed me it and a few that she's working on through Skype and I think people are going to be really happy :) I am so so so glad she's getting caught up. I know right now she;s working on an insanely intricate design.

Just a few more and she's caught up to me and Tia Michelle. :D

I'm going to guess that you mean the Peacock Mantis Shrimp tail that I ordered with that near-impossible deadline? If so, I can agree that that tail is the most beautifully intricate one I've yet to see. ^^" It's almost completed though, which is the most exciting thing in the world for me! It's also using the new fluke design she has, and I'm excited to be one of the first girls to test it out for her. Honestly, I've never met a tailmaker quite as talented or incredible as Mermaid Raven. <3

@themnmermaid I'm so excited for you I can't wait to see! :) and aw thanks everyone I am in love with the colors and little fins (which were actually attached for free because when I sent the design it had multiple fins but I could only afford and order the dorsal and Raven accidentally made all of the fins so she went ahead and and gave them to me she is too kind!!! I was speechless and cried when I got that email!) the only concern I had is that when I ordered I described a different waist (pretty exact to her new blended waist I asked for clear spots so it looked like a natural blended waist) when she came out with it I was actually thinking she was using her tail to experiment with my waist request and decided it could be an add on for tails. so I just want to work things out instead of send it back to have it done.
@AniaR thanks I love spots and made the tips of the fluke and fins black like a black tipped shark the more for kids to look at the better! ;)
@Arion they are front ankle fins @Marlin is right about the design I took oceanography and wanted my tail to be mostly anatomically correct it's why I put a dorsal fin and then have the typical "camouflage" of a lighter underbelly and a darker top. I admit when Raven attached them they looked funny to me at first but the more I look at them the more they grow on me I love my tail and I'm glad I can teach kids about the correct placement of fins on fish. Thank you everyone for so much love and supporting my design it's such a relief! :) <3

everytime she chats with me she goes on and on about how she loves working on the tail. She showed me a bit of the scale work and Sean and I were like :jawdrop: this one will be sure to blow everyone away. I can't wait for it to be done and for you to see it. (I havent seen anything else btw she just showed me scales she was making )

I'm so glad to hear that she's loving it! I've seen the fins and scales, as well as the top and the fluke. I just can't wait to see it all finally painted! Definitely a very vibrant, loud statement tail, there's no denying that! Hahaha! But her use of the Dragon Scales on the back and the shapes of all the fins, everything together is an absolute dream. There's nothing else like it out there, and I'm excited to rock the tail for Salt Lake Comic Con! c: Definitely a great place to make a splash. I promise everyone lots of pictures!

Seriously, anyone on the fence about trying to order from Mermaid Raven, I strongly urge that you do it. I came from Mertailor, and I love Merbella tails and their customer service much more. Leagues beyond any tailmaker I've worked with for productions before!

I feel repeatedly honoured that Raina mentions my tail and her's in the same breath (though I know she's been working on her breath-holding...lol)! I've gone with a supernatural showpiece style, so it's lovely to see that counterbalanced with styles based upon earthly sea life. For example, a Peacock Mantis Shrimp is one of the styles I've been envisioning for a while and I am eager to see someone actually doing it! :mermaid kiss:

Agreed! Hahaha. Also, thank you. I am very excited to see how it has all turned out. I'm surprised no Mer had done one before seeing as they are basically the most beautiful and colorful sea creature out there (in my humble opinion) but they aren't terribly well known so that might have something to do with it. Mermaid Raven was so thrilled with the idea of doing one though, and I am very grateful that she knew of and was also inspired by their design!

My tail came today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My roomate txt me when it arrived at the house while I was at work. The time seemed to go backward after that. 1yr & 7 months to the day I ordered and the day before my bday, how perfect is that?! The colors are absolutly perfect - the pictures she sent me in no way did it justice! My unboxing video has already been filmed & I take my first swim tomorrow. Sooo excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love the koi tail but it looks a little baggy in the first picture?

sometimes when you put silicone tails on dry as she did it's really hard to get all the wrinkles out or get it up all the way. My tail is skin tight and sometimes too tight. If I have to put it on dry I just give up and say screw the wrinkles. Bending like that almost always gives you wrinkles around your outer thighs, under your knees, and at your ankles. I find unless you lengthen your legs and point your toes it's hard to be 100% wrinkle free

might be an area thing. THey do work on facebook it batches, not everyone gets everything at once. A few people on my timeline are complaining about it lol, I just cant seem to post any right now, or open albums.

here's an example. I'd been in the tail dry for hours. took it off so I could pee. Tried to put it back on. and zero fu*** were given about wrinkles. LOL I just couldnt handle it. especially when you have extra fins it can be redic putting your tail on dry.

sitting the way she is with her knees pulled up as opposed to stretching out always causes unflattering bunching or wrinkles. I tend to not post photos like that cuz they look unflattering.

You can see a bit here, and my tail couldnt possibly get any tighter lol

That is really sweet, and your photos and descriptions are very helpful! I'm considering filming a dry tail-donning video once I receive mine in the mail. Knowing that my fins are going to render such a process quite difficult, I have an old favourite audio cassette to play during the process (Reflections of Nature: Beneath the Waves, circa 1998, which I often used to listen to while drawing). The first side is 23 minutes and 42 seconds long, yet I suspect I may need to flip it over before I've properly donned the tail! :phew::meditation:
