Also, Raven just surprised the hell out of me.

For my birthday as a gift she made me ANOTHER tail, so I could use it for the gigs that are harder on my tail. (like dry gigs). It's a FRANKEN tail meaning it is made 100% from left over pieces of bad mold pulls. Recycled/up cycled. Stuff that clients wouldnt/didnt want. But she painted it like mad and it looks freaking amazing! I'll post a pic of that one when she watermarks one and finishes it, and I'll post a pic of my main new one when she finishes it too. YOU WOULDNT EVEN BELIEVE THE SECOND ONE IS A FRANKEN TAIL IT LOOKS SO GOOD.

It really makes me feel relieved, because I was never expected Rapidash to take such a beating this year. I am already saving for another tail because I knew once I get Flareon (the name I have for the new one) that it'll be put through the ringer. With the amount of work I do the whole reason I bought flareon was to have 2 tails I could rotate. But now flareon is replacing rapidash because rapidash is ready to be retired. So yeah anyway I have beensuper stressed out about my company and my new tail is heavy with a floppy fluke and I worry about the fins and stuff etc. And I worry about the stress of dry gigs that we do. Now I have a wet tail and a dry tail and it'll also fit mermaid mutiny so I can get her doing some stuff in it too.

This is her gift to me as a friend for my birthday and if any of you have followed my raina mer fb it has been a difficult birthday. I spent part of in the hospital, lost someone who I thought was a friend because they attacked another friend online and I tries to resolve it, and a few other things just kinda made it hard.

But today I did a gig and the little girl was amazing and loving, and I came home to this, and my heart is just so filled I feel like it could burst.

I am going to do my best to pay this forward to someone else, some how! You've never lived til you've done something for someone who can never repay you and I feel like Raven did that just now for me. I never in a million years expected this. I was so happy just with seeing photos of my new tail on my birthday. It makes my birthday present to her look not quite as amazing hahah (her birthday is one week after mine)

So yeah, this pic is a sneak peek of the tail I ordered. It'll be finished up this week, shipped out next week. I will post a pic of the franken tail when it's finished and watermarked. You'll be blown away by the paint job. It's obviously similar to what I already have, but it's so good it just makes the tail look like a real full performance tail.

Mermaid Selene, thanks for commenting. It's nice knowing how many are in front of me. It's nice watching everyone get their tails because it gets me pumped for mine and also let's me feel one step closer. =) I ordered tops in December/January. She finished them at the end of June/beginning of July. Which is when she confirmed on making me a tail. My tail is going to match the color theme. She's still holding on to them for reference. I can't wait to see the finished product, as I love my tops.

Oh I am quite miffed at my email inbox for falling dead silent about thread updates all this time! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY MY DEAR RAINA! :mermaid kiss: :mermaid kiss: :mermaid kiss: It looks like we were on a strikingly similar page when we were independently coming up with our tail designs way back in February; though mine remains showy and I'm not sure when I'll be able to use it.

Since we've changed the design of my tail so much I thought I'd share my sketches with everyone after all.

Originally when I ordered in Feb I had wanted a new tail as a tank tail with the potential of Halifax Mermaids gaining a tank within the next fiscal year. So we wanted something inspired by rapdiash, flowy and showy, with dragon scales. But, with the huge increase I've had this year with bookings, and the wear and tear on my tail we had to consider replacing rapidash all together as opposed to having rapidash for kids parties and the new tail for other things. Now I just really need a new tail. So I'll start saving for my "second" tail all over again, hehe and retire rapidash.

So this was the ORIGINAL idea back in February. A koi + splash hybrid. I'd still love to own it one day :)

Instead my new tail will be a little less showy, a little more hard core functioning. Raven's going to use regular rounded scales, no top fins (that way I don't have to worry about them getting damaged when I do quick in and outs of my tail, or worry about them coming off), and a different style of heel and side fins, and a different dorsal. I'll be having a lovely new fluke style, with a smaller monofin this time. I love my competitor and I prefer competitor for swimming, but It is just so hard to fly with my wide stiff fluke, and I feel part of the damage I currently have on my fluke comes from the constant transport of the tail and pressure being put on the wrong spaces when it's carried or packed carelessly. This way I don't have to have a heart attack if the fluke folks a bit and I wont have to worry as much about the potential of a fluke snapping.

So as you can see it's a bit more modest than the showy koi idea ;) but Raven has some great ideas about colouring and little affects she's going to be putting in. I'm sort of known for the orange colours in Canada so they'll still be the base.

So as I said earlier. It's the mega evolved form of Rapidash hehe (which is totally a thing now in pokemon) I expect there to be a learning curb for me with the fluke but Raven feels given her current fluke making technique combined with my years of experience I should be okay. One thing I'll say I am super excited to be able to do normal front and back flips. If you've ever seen my videos I was able to do flips in the MC tail but everytime I tried in Rapidash the balance would go halfway and the fluke would knock me to the side hahahaha. It's going to be new and different to have such a flowy fluke. I am looking forward to it.

I have two photoshoots for when it comes, one will be in a studio with a collaboration of local artists, and the other - my mers and I will be renting out a salt water pool for promo photos and video :)

I will be happy to receive my lovely tail, I know it's being worked on atm along with other tails. I think it'll be really cool to see the juxtiposition between for a short period of time what will be the first merbellas tail and the most recent.

Agreed. I've been hoping to snap up another of her tops, but even as one of her friends, I don't see these posts. Her privacy settings are set really high, which makes sense, so even some of her friends aren't seeing them.

she gives friend's first dibs before going onto etsy to avoid all the extra hassle and etsy fees. it's pretty much her prerogative. From what I see most of them sold anyway. They were all just extras, cancelled orders, and used ones. If you want something custom it's best to tack it into your tail order, or request on her etsy once she has it up and going again. I think the whole point here is she sells to reliable people- not saying you arent all reliable but when she posts anything to the merbellas page she is bombarded and a huge majority of people dont follow through and it takes a LONG time to get through it all with extra back and forth that just doesnt have to happen when she posts stuff up on her fb and says "who wants what". You probably dont see any on her page because they were only up for a hot minute before selling. The post had been set as "friends" and clicking through them all I see they're all sold now aside from a few small used ones and shell ones. I can see how you'd see it as unfair but really they were never intending to sell the batch to the public.

When all else fails, just send her an email and ask when she'll be doing tops again. But be warned, her birthday is in a few days and she's off for her first actual vacation (only for a few days) pretty much since I met her. LOL

It was supposed to be finished two months ago and now that it is I still don't have it. I even offered to pay for shipping up front so I could get it shipped ASAP once it was finished. When she sent me my colored sketch she mentioned not having added the metallic accents as the don't render well in the colored sharpie markers she was using. The saturation and style of color blending was much like this sketch (different colors) but I don't know if that is what she consistently uses.

Also, I often use concentrated liquid watercolor (like Dr. PH Martin's which comes in dropper bottles) as an ink for the same level of color saturation and blending colors.

I am so sad :( I bought this gorgeous top from Raven last month when she was clearing stuff out and put a bunch of tops up for sale. It is built on a 36C bra, but b/c the shells are so large, I am thinking the cups can go bigger. I was worried it would be too big and unfortunately it is. It arrived today and is not only loose on my but the shells are just too massive for my frame. It is absolutely gorgeous and has so much detail and I am just heartbroken it doesn't fit. I am thinking I will need to sell it. Would anyone be interested? The shells are about 8-9 inches. I paid $262.65 which included shipping

So I have made the decision to receive my new tails during NCMerfest as opposed to having them mailed here to Halifax. While it's hard for me to go another month waiting, it is taking a chance to have the tails go through customs which can hold items for weeks with no guarantee that they will get to us in time. I will still have to pay shipping and custom fees, but far less than I would if it was mailed to Halifax. My mermazing merbrother Merman Christian (https://www.facebook.com/mermanchristian) is taking up the responsibility of letting me mail them to him in the USA and he will drive them to NCMerfest where I will film an EPIC unboxing with all of my close mer-friends. This means poor rapidash is being pulled from retirement for another month haha. We'll have a few gigs together, and one last photo/video shoot. So while we are also celebrating advent for Fishmas, I'll be celebrating advent for my tails and counting down the days hehe! I am SO lucky to have so many mermazing (as Linden calls it!) mer-friends and family. I am overjoyed to see them again.

Annika, I would say that you can certainly send an inquiry, but I've found that Raven emails or replies to inquiries only when she has something new to say. If you have a specification for your tail or an update on the paint scheme you want, by all means send it to her so she has it on hand for reference, but you aren't likely to hear from her until she's got new info for you about your painting stage. Also, didn't I read somewhere that you ordered in July? Did you order it as a rush tail?

Last night I was speaking to my friend Joanne and she restated her desire to have me speak in front of a couple thousand people in support of the LGBT Community at the Metropolitan Community Church's General Conference in 2016, which is in Vancouver, so I may have a shred of understanding of the joy of actually being near a place where I can swim in my upcoming tail! I mention this because it placed a question in my head: Will you or any of your mer-friends be wearing your new tails at NCMerfest?

As for Rapidash, let her remain forever testimony to the lasting quality of Raven's work; to think it's actually ​thinner than her average tail!

It is built on a 36C bra, but b/c the shells are so large, I am thinking the cups can go bigger. I was worried it would be too big and unfortunately it is. It arrived today and is not only loose on my but the shells are just too massive for my frame. It is absolutely gorgeous and has so much detail and I am just heartbroken it doesn't fit. exactly right though!! the only thing that could be done easily is extend the back straps to accommodate a larger bra size...that is an easy fix by getting another set up hooks,e ct..then just adding some extra pearls. But the shells are decorated around the lace and one should not mess with perfection. LOL

Hey friends, I just posted my review for my merbellas (named Nymeria) (yeah, after a year and a half lol) Also, question for those with silicone merbellas, mine is starting to rip in small places in the butt and down by my calf, this is new, I had no holes up to three months ago, did I break an age barrier and now it's starting to stretch more? I haven't gained weight, if anything I've toned up (yay abs) and I haven't done anything different. Granted, I think I may also use my tail more than the average mermaid, anywhere from 3-5 times a week (not as much as Raina by a long shot, but I feel a decent amount) So I don't know if it's just because I use it alot that this is happening, I'm assuming it's normal, but it makes me sad to see Nymeria start to rip. Coradion helped me fix some spots with silicone and so we'll have to fix a few more, but I was wondering at what age of your tail did you start finding little holes, or have you at all, do you just keep putting on silicone on those spots on the front and inside of the tail to reinforce? I'm a little freaked out because I need her to last me till Spring when I can get a new one. Also the inside has power mesh, I don't know if that makes a difference but I think helps and reinforces everything. Also my heel area shows no wear which is pretty rad.

Pearlie Mae gave me powermesh and I found reinforcing rips from the inside with it prevented them from getting bigger. My tail started to crack/rip close to the 2 year mark only very minor but ramped up after mold infestation and increase in gigs. Silicone does harden over time which makes it more brittle I was reading on spfx forums.

I think its a great evolution of rapidash. Originally we were going to go crazy with fins but I needed this tail to be super practical. I even intentionally had it made a bit looser so I can get in and out of it faster while wearing tights. Less chance of me damaging it gig after gig that way.

So it's a frecklefish?!? lol Actually what caught my eye both for the top (I like how the strap goes around your neck!) and the tail was that its colour scheme isn't too far removed from my own! I'm glad I'm going for a more sparkly/shiny/metallic flamelike pattern, big side fins and a koi fluke; that way we'll be able to tell our fiery-themed fishies apart! ;) :mermaid kiss:

I quite like the uniqueness of your fluke, though; it feels a bit like a cross between the Angler (though less deep-sea raggedy) and the Peacock Mantis Shrimp. It looks really cool too!

Well if it helps I'm at day 250something and I still haven't gotten a pic either, nor is my tail at paint stage as you mentioned in an earlier post yours was (even though you didn't order until July which is 2 months later than I did, which seems weird, but my tail is somewhat complex so perhaps that accounts for her being ahead on yours). She emailed about three weeks ago saying she was just attaching my extra fins and would send a photo of that before begining paint. Still waiting for that pic.

Hey I have a question for anyone with a performance tail with a Merbella fluke, how big is it size wise as in across and measured from the very tips to where you can fold the body down? I have a basic tail and have actually managed to find a suitcase that I can fit it into (bicycle suitcase) but it only has about 10cm both ways of wiggle room so I'm worried that if the performance fluke is much bigger it won't fit, so I'll need to find a different case, I haven't bought one yet just in case. Also, I'm not sure if the foot pocket size makes a difference but I'd be getting a large.

My tail is 31.5 inches across at the widest point, and from the fluke tips to the lowest foldable point (end of foot pockets) is 34 inches. The FedEx box it came in is 34 x 29 x 4.5 . It was a tight squeeze in the box and she had to fold over the fluke ends as much as they would go. I'm in WA and shipping was $121.71 and it took 6 days (arrived a day or two earlier than the shipping estimate said, if I remember correctly).

Yep! I think waiting sounds like a good idea. I was going to wait until I got my tail any way, because I'd have extra fins to deal with and I have no idea how that would affect the size and I wasn't sure if the actual foot pocket size of the monofin affected the blade size (I think I may have read somewhere it might but I can't remember for sure). It would be really silly of me to buy one now with no clue as to how big my tail was going to be haha. Also merbellas has more of a tops range to get to match my tail when the time comes and would also love bracers and am hoping to eventually design some tops for myself when I get flippers to play with etc.

Overall may take time but I have no idea who to go with as I think without individual scales Finfolk does it will be cheaper but have fins and paint job to pay for any recommendations?? As both are beautiful but I love Merbella's tops so much!

I have no clue. Raven told me in her last mail 'she would send it out directly' but that's all I got. My Ariel top took 1,5-2 weeks to arrive so that was quickly. I hope this helps!

Nope, the fluke design that Raven has on the picture is the "She creature", I believe. Not the same as Rainas.
As far as I now, the "She creature" design is not available to the public.

The fluke in the pic is definitely the "She-Creature" fluke and thus far it has not been an option available to the public / is one of her personal tails. Raina's tail, I believe, has the unofficially nicknamed "calypso" fluke and was also the same fluke shape on the Rainbow Mantis shrimp inspired tail and I think on Raven's recent lionfish tail. That said, she does do custom fluke designs for an extra fee if none of the current offers suits your tastes.

You see, I've just been dying to do some designs - and I've done tons using the Angler fluke (because it's gorgeous!!) but I can't help but notice that the Angler fluke is much stiffer than the other flukes. That being said, I really liked the look of the Calypso tail and how it moved in water and land etc etc. I was sort of afraid to ask been as I've only amounted 10% of the necessary funds for a silicone tail - but I'm just so eager when it comes to designing tails! X3

Yes, it is normal. You were asking about a top, right? She's constantly swamped with emails from clients and would-be clients, and she has to give priority to her current clients. The only way you're likely to get a response from her is by having the full amount ready for payment (and titling your email as such) and even then she only takes orders every once in a while. From what I've seen, she generally only makes tops when it's with a tail order, or through her Etsy.

Basically, if she doesn't answer, she doesn't have the time for another order. Either she saw your email and couldn't respond because she already has too many orders, or she didn't see it because she doesn't have time to check her emails because she has too many orders. :P

If younlike the angler fluke but are averse to it's stiffness it warrants mention that you can ask Raven to cut the monofin back some so that you're fluke has flowier movement in the ends.

This is actually my first time seeing a colour video of the lionfish tail, and let me state that the slow swimming among the grotto makes the performance very realistic for her chosen form of fish! :mermaid kiss:

That tail is really gorgeous!!! Love the fins and the fluke!!! Raven is so great at making tails!!! But I can't help but think it must feel weird swimming in a tail of that quality that she spent hours making herself :s Must feel good though!
