I'm really excited about getting a production slot for Merbella Studios. Everything I've heard and seen makes me certain that I made the right decision for my first tail. The tail I put in an order for will have the Lunar Koi fluke and rounded scales. I wanted to know a few things from Merbella merfolk. How is swimming in the Lunar Koi tail? I'm a strong swimmer with monofin experience, and I'm definitely going to be taking it slow while I get used to using my tail, but I'd love to hear from folks who have had a chance to do some Lunar Koi fluke swimming. What did you find, if anything, challenging about it? I also have concerns about cleaning relating to the scales. I'm a huge proponent of natural cleaners - baking soda, vinegar, and essential oils are the heavy lifters in my home when it comes to keeping things clean. Obviously, there are mold concerns when cleaning a silicone tail. Is it more challenging to keep textured scales clean? I really dig the Merbella scales and the newer textured scales that Raven used on her latest rainbow-y, personal tail, but it feels like it might be more challenging to get into all the little grooves. As I've never owned and cleaned a mermaid tail before, that may not be the case, though. Also, tea tree oil is an essential oil rock star with serious anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, but it can be highly caustic if you're not careful about diluting it. For those who own Merbella tails, what has been your experience in keeping them clean and mold-free? Does anyone use essential oils (diluted, of course) as a part of their cleaning regimen, and have you found it to be harmful to the silicone?

Congrats Sabreprime! Your tail sounds like it will be amazing! I don't believe much scrubbing is involved in cleaning the exterior of a silicone tail (I could be wrong though since I don't own one). I think most people just soaks theirs after a swim in a baking soda bath, wipe the inside out (either with more baking soda or I think I've even heard that one mer uses Lysol wipes), and then dry.

And Felicia, the moment the water is warmer we expect a swimming video ;)

I know Raina uses a thick bristled brush , like a body brush for in the shower, to scrub her tail. It's gentle but gets all the sand out

Dragonskin (platinum cure silicone) is prosthetic grade, and can technically be boiled, so hot water and soap is not going to harm it. Neither is alcohol, disinfectant wipes, or other cleaners. With tails that are painted, that is, most of them, you do want to clean the exterior gently, but the inside can be vigorously scrubbed. I use a body pouf and Dawn dish soap, because it's a great degreaser for getting out any lube. Just make sure that everything is rinsed well, and probably most importantly, dried thoroughly.

Tea tree oil could be fine, but I think it's really unnecessary.

I want to see it swimming in the water. I seen a small few seconds of Raina in the pool with Raven in "Jade". But it was floating around. That and thr very end of her interview with Tyler.

Have you already owned a fabric tail to start? They're the best starter tails, as the fabric keeps your legs bound, not just the monofin. Also congrats on getting a production slot!!!! I have found the only thing that keeps my tails mold free long term without damaging, is regular rinsing, wiping out with a lysol wipe, and making sure to put fans inside them to thoroughly dry them. I've got 5. including the first one she ever made

Y'all have no idea how thrilling this is. I dont know if some of you remember Mermaid Parties/Finbutts that was located here in Colorado (gosh 2012 seems so long ago now o.o) but after working for her, her and my ex friend fucked up my tail so bad I couldn't wear it anymore and NOW after all these years of working hard for the money, coming up with ideas for it and now so close to getting it as got me in a daze :'3

She told me it was just lion fish inspired... She didn't seem to realise it looked like a Mantis Shrimp.

I love Raven's work and could spend hours just looking at photos of her tails. I'm so excited for everyone who is lucky enough to have a MerBella tail on the way! The tails just seem to keep getting better - I can't wait to see the next batch! [emoji4]

Red-eyed tree frogs are my favorite! I used to do classroom presentations with my reptile zoo... most kids loved the frogs the best. I have a drawing a 12 year old did hanging in my hallway. Not only was it worthy of framing, but people ask where they can get one.... it's a one and only!

Yes it is, Moo Prostethics. In youtube there's also some videos of the guy who designs them, you can find those videos by name Thai merman. His real name is Farahsunamun, I don't remember his last name. He has instagram also, have been following that quite some time since he puts there videos of his creations as well as swimming vids :) He has at least two lionfish tails there, all his tails are just super amazing.

Moo is a friend of mine. He makes these tails for a Thai mini series. He calls this a dragon mermaid tail, not a frog one. Farahsunamun Thephasdin but he also goes by Vasit Suchitta . (I think he's has issues in the past with fans of the TV series tracking his FB down so he's changed his FB name a few times)

I'd rather if we're gonna post about his stuff we put it in his thread. (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?8062-Moo-s-Mermaids-finally-here&highlight=asian+tail+maker) Basically a look you were trying to be original but someone beat you to it, I don't think is a great thing to say to someone either.

It's more along the lines of, "they have the same eyes" then anything. Moos tails I don't think could ever be copied, the details are crazy intricate. I can't imagine what it would look like in the water, or how heavy it is, and your right, it's closer to dragon then tree frog.

Like to see how much bigger the calypso is to the angler, and the new koi fluke to the Merbella, and so on? any pics or a link to a thread would be so helpful.

Leina I love my rounded fins. When Raven sent the sketch it was one of the few changes I made. I drew them out and Raven agreed to make them. I am so glad she did because they came out so cute!

I just got my first sketch for my tail from Raven! It's absolutely beautiful; my gorgeous sunset-colored baby. I want to ask her before I post the picture anywhere, but even so, considering some of the things I've heard about people stealing her designs, I don't know if it would be the wisest decision just yet. I gave her creative control, just letting her know what I wanted for fins, fluke, and scale type as well as a color palette to work with. What she came up with is way better than anything I could ever dream up myself. To anyone who is thinking of working with Merbella Studios, I say go for it. In spite of their reputation for having challenges with communication, they have been, far and away, more responsive to me than any other studio I was speaking with when considering who to commission for my tail. Total class act. I cannot wait to continue this process with them.

This wouldn't need temperature change because it's just a duochrome pigment - so it reflects different colours from different angles rather than actually changing from one colour to another.

Yeah I agree - it's really pretty and a bit more like real iridescent scales.

I'm using the same for my new tail in green, gold and red. They're not real colors as they show only when the light hits them but they are really lovely :)

It looks like the same type of pigment Pearlie uses. I think I know what it is! (If not, I have some very similar pigments that give the same effect!)

I've never seen a tail that changes colour depending on temperature, but that would absolutely rock! A tail that changes colour if you're going from warm dry land into cooler water would be amazing. I'd love to see that!

Also, I love that pink tail. I don't often do pink, but that vibrant deep pink is stunning, and the black really sets it off beautifully. Raven definitely goes beyond 'tail maker' and is a true 'tail artist'. I love her work.

Nowhere did raven claim to be the first, I saw Fifi experimenting with the same thing months ago as well. Mike van Daal did it 6 years ago.

i think it's really sad the amount of snark that came out of Raven posting a quick behind the scenes video of working on a tail. And how quick people are to jump to assign their own meaning to a fairly innocent post. left me really disappointed in a lot of people. Glad the comments were removed both from her Merbella's page, and Pearlie's initial post. (context for people who didn't see, a few snarky comments were made on Pearlie's posting about her technique, in reply to raven, which then carried over to some not so nice comments being left on raven's video, all of it 100% unnecessary)

Having this little picture of a tail is the light in the darkness that I needed.

I can't share it, since I dont have permission to, and I think it might be more fun for it to be a surprise for everyone later.

It's because it's a very special project for her. I don't remember exactly what she said but I did talk to her about it once. Also she does still do simple colour schemes if the client wants it, I mean my original design was just a blue, green purple design with no patterns or anything it was very simple but she was happy to do it for me if that's what I wanted. it's more she just prefers doing the intricate, elaborate schemes.

I did the same thing, I just gave a color palette fluke and the extra fins I wanted and let her go to town. I could NEVER come up with designs like she does. It's a true gift.

As with my concers.. As some of u know I had some sizing issues with the blended waist (to big).

Over the past months I contacted Raven and asked her for some tips to alter it. First she told me I had to ship it back for adjustments but they haven't had time to take that order in. I told her I could not afford to ship it right back to them and asked for advice. Then she told me it was not the usual way but she told wat was best to do and wished me luck! :)

So. I am completely over the moon right now. We didn't know if this was going to happen or not.

Over a year ago I discussed with Raven the concept of a 'sister-tail.' If two mers placed orders at the same time would she be able to work on them together. She said she had done that once before with a pair of preforming mermaids and she would be interested if the tails contrasted and were not twin tails. I agreed.

I placed my order with her last week, and today she graciously accepted my best friend Jamie's order with the agreement that they would be 'sister-tails.'

Same fluke shapes, similar color schemes, contrasting tails, similar tops. Enough to make us look like we're the same species, not matching enough where we're out and out twins, but enough that we work together and are still unique. Jamie and I look incredibly similar anyways, we're taken as sisters most places we go. I could not be happier right now. I am absolutely poleaxed.

I totally did a dance in my office.

Im going to have a sister-tail with the person in my life I am closer to than anyone. She's my complete other half. The other piece of myself. And now in this too we'll be doing this together.

Im going to cry im so emotional right now. We have been planning this for years and now it's happening.

well I dont think Raven is taking orders for a while, and she doesn't usually have time to meet up with people. They only really answer messages when they're able to take orders, or for current clients, and even for current clients it's usually minimal replies due to their demand

That's not a fair comment. The only thing Moo's snake tail has in common with this design is that it has red eyes. This one is based on a frog, and very beautifully done.

The sketch was actually created (and the tail designed by customer/Raven) before Moo posted his finished tail. It's purely coincadence.

I know - I had read your post and that was why I was wondering why it was still showing up on the thread preview. That was also why I posted the frog tail pic again... Trying to be helpful and remove the photo from the preview - not trying to start any drama on who did the first eyes... [emoji85][emoji87] Sorry about that!!

(I do love the frog design, though, and I can't wait to see it. Meshy - you are one lucky mermaid!)

Yeah I thought that was the case too, I just forgot that you could delete your own posts! So that makes more sense now haha.

I didn't delete my post, I removed the photo (an edit) the post is still there, it just has text instead. But as for the other person, their post may have been moved since it was a bit trolley?
