I'm not new to Ebay by any sense of the word.I've seen people sell haunted dolls and things with spirits tied to them but never once have I need it where I know the person(most of us here do) your supposed to have within your grasp if you buy the pendant....

Do you want to own a mermaid or be the mermaid who is owned? I would rather have a mermaid who graces me with her presence for however a short a time it would be.

Wow. Just.. wow. Not only a magical mermaid sea nymph, but one who will be your, um *cough*, companion.
Posted this to Raven's wall.
People hurt my brain.

Holy shit, that is super gross. Its funny too, but the humor value is sort of reduced by the creepiness of their clam that Raven is a magical creature you can own as a sex slave.

As an aside, do you think whoever bought it was at all curious why an immortal mermaid with a zillion different super powers that will love you forever costs less than a tuna?

That's terrible, and really weird. I'm sure Raven did not have a say about this. They clearly ripped her pictures from her site and posted them without permission. People are weird and creepy sometimes.

Now I'm even more paranoid about posting photos. What do?

there is a way to make your photos appear normal, but when someone tries to copy them with out permission it puts a watermark that says something like "property of Thalassa" (sorry using her name since i am her mertender) diagonally across it, the trick is, remembering how to do it. i will do some research and let you all know.

Yep Super creepy. Ive contacted the seller (and my lawyer) and reported it to VERO and Auctiva to have it removed. I definitely had nothing to do with it and I'm certainly not mystical sea nymph trapped in a piece of abalone shell. O.o I'm happily married and I live in a house haha.
People are so silly.

If you have an ebay account, I suggest reporting this as a copyright infringement and misrepresentation of item in description. Also that the seller is using the images in the post with out permission.

It's a fae magick thing and an opportunist combined. He is claiming that he has photos of the actual mermaid but clearly doesnt did he actually try to tie a fae to the pendant? Idk, but I think THAT is immoral too. I dont 100% believe in that stuff but come on even if I did that looks super sketch.

I know it's wrong that they used Raven's picture and it is a little creepy on what they did. But I do give them credit for being creative on selling an item.

I thought Ebay were banning the sales of all "Woo"? (ironically enough, not 'holy water', or religious pendants)

I reported it last night too. Ugh, first of all, yes you can have your images be specifically layers so when people save em it says your copyright. My photographers do it using lightroom. Problem is, most people who aren't photographers can't afford it. At the very least, everyone should be watermarking their images or putting their website url somewhere on them. It cuts down on theft- though you'll have people who will take it anyway, crop out the mark, or edit it out. It just helps.

Let me just say this WHOLE thing makes me giggle. Why? Because this person is pretty much stupid and an NOOB at ebay.
I work for a company that operates off ebay. Ebay is LITERALLY my Job. I can tell you that their listings and use of Ebay is going to be VERY short lived.
Good work guys :)

Just got this back from the seller
"Hi Ms Sutter,
I am so sorry that I have upset you. Plese know that I meant no harm or insult to you. I saw the pictures on Google Images when searching for mermaid pics and thought that you and the photos were beutiful and artfully captured the essence of the mermaid lore. Be assured I will never use your pictures again. I hope you accept my appology as the last thing I would want to do is upset you or take advantage of an artists' work."

@ Aela: They were supposed to ut I dont know if they decided to do so because lets face it and people will figure out how to sell it any way.I mean it can be a good selling gimick for people begging for the mystical.Honestly I can say i've been tempted by some of the "haunted" dolls. Not that the fact they are haunted but in the fact of how old some of them are.
@MerHopefully: I feel bad about the idea of anything mystical being tied to an object :(

@Enid, agreed. It's like a genie in a lamp, cursed to live the rest of their days in a smelly ol' lamp. :[ It would be kind of cool if this were real though, not as a...er... mate...if you know what I mean...but as a friend.

Coincidentally, I'm working on a story with a character who ends up in a similar situation to that very one.

sydthefairebrat,
Granting fulll form djinn" what does that even mean? And aren't djinn evil? Hah
Djinn are actually supposed to be spirits of smokeless or subtle fire, as compared with angels who are spirits of light, and humans who are made from the earth. Most traditions I've found do equate Djinn with demons, but not so "either/or"... each djinni and djinniya is supposed to chose whether to be good and faithful or rebellious and corrupt, and there are whole tribes of "good" djinn. Djinn are also, of course, genies. I believe that the concept of djinn in lamps and rings is a mixture of the fact that such spirits find containers like that to be comfortable homes and foci (since they're made of fire, perhaps?) and that King Solomon and other magicians are supposed to have mystically bound dangerous djinn into their own "homes." Evil is, as always, in the intent and the action, not the species.

Raven's image probably isn't the only one being misused. I think another image is as well (there is a copyright in the corner for heaven's sake!) I emailed the owner (the contact for the site the copyright took me to), but I do not have an ebay account to further report it. For those of you with ebay accounts, would you mind reporting this? I have a feeling many of the other images fall into the copyright infringement category as well... if you look through them, you'll see what I mean. Even if he/she does have permission to use this, they should have a 'used with permission' phrase somewhere visible with the copyrighted work... thanks for your help!
