I know a lot of mers have several tails, but I was wondering if anyone has more than one character. Like, if you had 3 different tails and each tail had it's own character connected with it. I don't think I've seen anyone do this, but I'm also new to the community, so~

I'm glad you asked! I certainly do..

Current blue tail (retired..and missing O_O): Mermaid that was raised by dolphins after her family was murdered in a dolphin slaughtering accident. She vows to help protect her saviors, the dolphins.

Black betta tail: A mysterious siren that lingers in the water, waiting to lore sailors to their death. She doesn't say much (unless of course she is singing), but she is very intriguing. She is also a shape shifter and can take on many forms. ;)

Pink goldfish tail: (still working on this one T_T).

Rainbow tail: Anime mermaid! she is gifted with powers over water. (still working on this one O.O).

i probably will use the same name (annariea), but my different tails might have different personalities.
but i might also change the name for my mersona in my purple tail :3 annariea is going to be for the newer design i think (newer design = signature).

I might. I am still playing with the name Vella for my mersona. Choices choices.

Also, the Mermaid Personas thread has a lot of mers with multiple personas!

Oh I will most definitely have different mersonas for each tail. Right now I only have one but for the next one I'm making I'll have a new name and backstory. It's fun that way. You get to be different each time

I only have one Mersona: Kalani! But I have four tails. With each tail, I can feel more dramatic, or playful or mysterious, but I'm just Kalani :) I don't have much of a background story like having my family killed or soul purpose is to drown sailors, but I definitely feel like a different person when swimming in a tail, or posting here on Mernetwork. :D <3

Blue tail [retired] : A very childlike, curious young mermaid, she likes to sneakily watch humans from a distance, and occasionally swim in shallow water, but never approaches. She's very friendly to humans, especially children.

Purple tail [going into retirement] : Very mysterious and mystical. She leaves the humans in wonder as she swims off. She is a very big defender of the ocean and its creatures. She is harmless unless she sees someone being cruel to the environment. You don't want to know what happens then.

Upcoming pink and black tail: She's a bit on the edgy side, taking risks to tease the humans or "leggies" as she calls them, on the shore. Best friend is lionfish Zuna.

I have an idea for a very colorful tail, inspired by a children's show, I grew up with. It would be a dream tail, and it would take the name of the character in the show, Beverly.

I know that I currently have one mersona, Kailani (not to be confused with Kalani), and she does have a back story. Her parents were killed by careless fishermen, who found them in their neat and killed them out of fear and sport. From then on she was raised by dolphins and plays with seals. She can easily communicate with other sea mammals, but has some difficulty with the fishes. As a result of her parents' death, she will cut open fishing nets when she finds them, especially if they contain other mers or sea mammals.

I do have ideas for other tails, lots of them. Probably more than I'll ever get to have, but each seems to have its own feel and personality to it. Like a shark based tail will probably be a bit different then let's say an octopus based or something. Haha

Well, I can't wait to see what happens when I start getting more detailed tails. :-D

I had a shark inspired tail, I may redo it in the future. i actualy have 2 mersonas, I havent brought "Kaida" to light yet, shes a warrior type of mermaid, i think the black/blue tail will be her.. the blue purple tail is definitely Lanai. or rather an older version of lanai.. So taken from the other thread:

Lanai is a strong minded and independent Mermaid Princess, who’s determined to do things for herself (very stubborn asother mers would say) She proved this to her overbearing father, by swimming off on the day of her arranged marriage. On her adventures of exploration, she befriends whales and dolphins and other marine life long her way, some of which were in need of rescue from nets or were injured by human interference. Around the pods many know her as “Guardian of the Cetaceans”. Her curiosity always leads her to the surface to observe children as they play, she would once in a while interact with the kids who swam in the shallow waters. And also learned there are humans out there who care for her whale/dolphin friends enough to help them, when she can’t. Her fondness of humans also relates to one in particular, a male who works in animal rescue and saved the life of Lanai's whale friend, she watches this human as he goes to the beach and sits by the waters edge every night, without fail.

I actually have a darker version of Lanai.. a lost sister, twin actually.
i want call her Kaida (which was the name of my florida gar), she was lost in the kelp forests one day while play chasing with a seal into the forest. Lost and alone she was eventually found and taken in by a lone transient orca who lost her calf, she was raised to learn the ways of the pod following, hunting and socializing with the pods. She's become more of a warrior mermaid than a gentle kind. She's seen what humans have done to her adopted family and other orcas, losing some members of her pod because of loud sounds which came from boats, hurting their ears. And those she calls the hunters who follow in boats and take orcas for food. She however has a moment where she strays from the pod because her curiosity can get the best of her. which she ends up getting into much trouble.

Lanai, have you considered doing the Jem/Jerrica, She-ra/Aurora style thing where they have their super-hero alter ego, who comes alive after magical words are spoken, or a specific action is performed? That would be cool :)

Delilah

I had Saphira, she was a pirate mermaid, I worked at a pirate museum at a Renaissance fair and had to switch into tail so i had my Pirate character merge with my Mermaid character. Now while i did like being the classic scary, sailor drowning mermaid, i had to break character often to talk to little children. So i created Delilah, a happier more disneyesque mermaid with an all new look. Saphira has turned back into a full pirate and now i have Delilah to be skippy and friendly

I'm actually currently working on my first "mersona", haha. I like the names River Tahoe, Taipara Tahoe & Celie Tahoe. I like the idea of Tahoe being my last name, although it's not set in stone yet.

I'm still writing it up, but this is what I'm writing about her so far...

"A messenger mermaid who carries messages from one kingdom to another. Comes to land sometimes to carry messages to humans, meaning that she has legs. Speaks some sort of mer language and English. Cutesy, flirty, childish, cheerful. Laid back and easygoing; tolerant. Tells a lot of stories. I plan to utilize the secrets she will know from the kingdoms and it will allow me a great backstory for storytelling. Carries messages across the seven seas. Important in the kingdoms. She has a much better breathhold in the ocean because chlorine is bad for mermaids."

I'm probably stating the obvious but Aela is the 'Pearl Empress'. Being the Empress, she oversees and is responsible for protecting the magical 'life force' in all water environments (oceans, ponds, lagoons, rivers, streams, lakes, etc...), relying on the Kingdoms within the Pearl Empire and the mer-citizens within those Kingdoms to look after the oceans. I'm in the process of fleshing out the more detailed character traits, but I'd like her to have this magical aura about her also that she uses in feeding/keeping alive said 'life force'.
I have also created a crest for her role (not authentic by any means but as this is fantasy I let myself get creative! ) and the motto means "From Sea to Sea".
She's a fancy one, and I'm proud as punch of the character I have so far created :D

I don't have my tail yet but because of my Disney connection I'll have to say to people who ask that I grew up in atlantica and triton is my king, just so everything is canon and kids won't get confused then! :)

I've never imagined what it'd be like to adopt a "mersona" of sorts. I think I'd be far too excited to be tail-swimming to come up with an alter-ego. :)
But how does it feel to have one? What do you tend to do with a mersona? Do you roleplay with others?
