View Full Version : Auditioning to become one of Mermaid Kariel's Merbabes tomorrow!

Super stoked, and kind of nervous, I'm auditioning tomorrow for Mermaid Kariel to be on her merbabe team! There will be an interview, and then a practice run in the pool I suppose to see how we swim. I have my own monofin, should I bring it? I feel like bringing my own tail when she has her own to provide when the merbabes perform would be kind of tacky. What should I wear? I'm guessing I should go get a new swimsuit (all my 2 pieces don't hold up when monofin swimming, and my one piece is ratted up from all of my monofin swimming), what do you think she'll have us do? Has anyone ever tried out for something like this, and know what to expect?
Thanks a ton,
Harmony

I may not be very helpful w/ your questions, but I can wish you good luck! ;)

I would say to bring anything mer related of your own just in case, as you will seem and be very prepared. I don't have any experience for it, but a new swimsuit might be helpful if yours aren't good anymore.

Wait, since this is an audition, I'd say "break a leg," so I guess "Break a tail!" or "Break a fin!"

I would say, Wear small, but mermaidy jewelry/accessories, definitely get a new one-piece, bring your monofin, and maybe keep your (protected, of course) in your car. Mention that you have one and allow her to inspect it if she wishes. She's super nice. I hope you get it!

I second Dottie's comment. Don't bring your tail since she insists that the Merbabes wear her tails. You can always bring photos on your phone or as a print out to show her though. I would bring the monofin just in case - it makes a good back up in case anything happens. You're going to do awesome and I'll be surprised if you don't get it. :)

Good luck, maybe treat it like a marine animal trainer test.
I'd bring your tail, but leave it in the car. Just in case, monofin wouldn't hurt, a one piece is always good, same with goggles, and a cap if you need em. I have some extra caps if you want one. My guess is you'll be doing a few lengths of butterfly kick. Kick from the core, roll your body and don't forget to glide, gliding is the most important part of the stroke. Probably a timed breath hold or underwater 25's, so usually one length of the pool. Relax and keep calm ;). Your personality speaks for itself, so I don't think there's much to worry about. :)

Thanks for all the tips and ideas! I found out that she's hiring for different things, and today is promo work out of the water, and so we'll be showing our improv skills and things of that nature, and have the interview, if we do well with that, then the swim audition is next week. :-) I bought a new one piece, but it's kind of ugly because it's the only one they had in the entire store and I thought the swim portion was today, so I'll go and find a cute one this weekend. I'll let you all know how it goes!

Good luck hope it goes well ! When I did my workshop we have numerous skills we had to complete... distance swimming underwater on breath hold, static breath hold, treading water for 15mins in our tails, movement counselling, underwater modelling skills etc ! Just have fun and Im sure you'll do great !

So...it went great! We didn't do any swimming today, more promo work, and an interview. She seemed to like me, and Kariel herself was a doll, super nice, I think I'll have a swimming audition this next week perhaps, she was hiring for swimming and non-swimming mermaids, so we'll see! Should know within a couple weeks!

Ahh I'm super jealous of your life right now! Do you know how often Kariel holds auditions? I really want to pursue this when I get out of school. Have fun with the rest of your audition!

Thanks Hales! Not often from what I perceive (I could be wrong), but you never know, I messaged her I think 3 times before she hosted actual auditions about becoming a merbabe, it's always worth it to ask!

Still haven't heard back yet, I'm on the edge of my seat. She said after the holidays, I figure if I don't hear from her by Monday I'll email her. Trust me, once I know ya'll will know, either way. Thanks for keeping your fins crossed! :-D

So, it's not going to work out. However, that works out fine, as I'm doing birthday parties and my own thing on the island, so this way I can keep my Harmony persona, and pick what I want to do with my merlife. It would be a great opportunity, but not the right fit I suppose. She is amazing, and is running a fintastic mermaid business, so I wish her nothing but the best as she is still an inspiration to me and many other mers. :-)
