So I am sick at work, its snowing outside and very very boring. I have time to kill before my doctor's appt and when/if he tells me not to come into work tomorrow. So I have been listening to this song/music video since I got here this morning. No matter how many times I listen to it, I feel my heart being pulled to the music. I dont care if some parts are "Impossible" for the human voice to do...I honestly believe that if more opera singers could do this, there would be an uprising in opera "go-ers". If you haven't guess by now....its the "Diva's Song" from Fifth Element.
Here's a live version of the song. Its beautiful and entertaining. Just watch it once and you will be hooked :)

some of the bits she wasnt actually singing. like when the notes changed octaves back and forth quickly. but a lot of the high notes she was still hitting.

i saw an interview about this, she specifically did that song in concert to prove it was possible, in the movie they had to use pitch correcting software, not because it isnt possible to sing but because it had to be sung over and over and over, and thats enough to kill anyones voice.

Hi Mer Adella, this song is not impossible to do, but it's considered to be one of the most difficult-to-perform songs ever written, and only a few coloratura sopranos can perform it flawlessly. It can also be sung to convey deep emotions, given what it is about.
The song is 'Il dolce suono' ('The Sweet Sound') from the opera Lucia di Lamermoor. The performance by Inva Mula for the movie 5th Element is the one I've liked the best.
In the opera, set in Scotland, the story leading up to the song is that Lucia deeply loves a man from a rival family, and they have exchanged rings and pledged their troth. Her relatives are determined to exclude her lover Edgardo, though, and trick her into believing he has renounced her in France, then coerce her into marying Arturo, a man she despises, for their own selfish reasons.
Just after Lucia signs a marriage contract (these things don't exist any more) Edgaro enters the castle, and when he finds out Lucia has signed a marriage contract to another, throws their rings to the ground before being driven out by the relatives.
Lucia is beside herself. She goes through with the wedding ceremony, but in the bridal chamber after the wedding, she stabs Arturo to death, then reappears before the wedding guests with the bloody knife, and sings Il dolce suono, in which she imagines herself reunited with Edgardo, happily married and filled with joy, then she collapses.
If you'd like to follow the words, here's a recording of a stage performance with subtitles added

Wow! Those old operas could be pretty intense.
