What kinds of day jobs do you mers have? Those of you who aren't lucky enough to be mermaiding full time, that is.

I'm really thankful to have a job at all, but I hate said job. It's only part time (I was told full time when they hired me) hosting at a restaurant and I'm lucky if I get into the triple digits for my pay checks. I can't afford a monofin, let a lone a full tail on such piddly pay. And it just infuriates me because the management is terrible and makes promises they don't intend to keep (such as promoting me to server) and they don't respect their employees. They treat the servers and other dining room staff like slaves while the kitchen staff messes up constantly and mouths off, yet they get babied. And then there's the rude customers! Augh. Sorry that got so ranty. I just want a job that actually correlates to my psychology degree so I know I didn't waste the past 4+ years.

Man, your jobs sounds like a job I had a few years ago. Can't say I'm working a dream job today, but it's better than before.

Sadly, many people in today's world have 4 year degrees that they aren't able to use (such as myself). Our economy is all about expereince and less about educational background. I have a lot of friends that went back to school to get their masters or second bachelors cause "the real world" is just so uninviting to those just graduating. It's more about who you know, too. I'm sure one thing that helped me get the job I have right now was that I knew the son of the hiring manager and thus, knew the manager (I, of course, also had the need requirements for the job, as well).

I'm currently a full time mermaid... not by choice... lol there isn't any work in my field in my province, but I'm sticking it out in hopes of landing an elusive job in the new year! Technically I'm a sub teacher, but there isn't any sub work

i work as a hostess at a carrabba's in my area. i personally LOVE it. i love the atmosphere, i love the people i work with (there are only 1 or 2 people i dislike, and even that isnt a big deal), and i get half off everything i buy!! GREAT FOOD FOR HALF OFF? YES PLEASE.
plus, i work with my boyfriend, who is a server there, which makes it even better. the money isnt GREAT, but its pretty good, especially on weekends.

I hear ya. I used to work at IHOP.
BLEGH!
Here in Utah, all the servers are lucky to get triple digit paychecks, because the minimum wage for them is $2.30/hr.
The Hosts and Hostesses only make $6.20/hr, and they don't get tips.
It just makes me so mad how poorly they're treated here.
I've been there, and my older sister is STILL there.
yucky.

I'm a lifeguard in the summer, but I'm a media intern now.

I love my job. It's pretty fantastic to be a college student and have a paid internship in the field you're majoring in. My boss is chill and everyone I work with is so nice. The only complaint is getting bad interviews or people who shut you down for interviews, or when the computer won't work, or waking up early xD

I guess I'm lucky, I work as a lead day camp counselor at a day camp in Hawaii. I love my job because I get to program activities and still work with the kids and do story time and things like that. I like working in the nonprofit sector, they are usually always hiring or looking for help.

My day job woe is that I'm unemployed and owe my dad like 2.5K for the Raven tail he bought me, and my phone bills.

Gah I thought I was the only one! I work in retail at a clothes store. I've been there for years and I'm still earning minimum wage. :(

I'm their oldest standing employee but because of a company technicality, I can't be promoted to any any other position than where I am now. The next position up would be basically I part time assistant manger which would give me a 30 hour work week, free weekends and evenings, and an hourly wage over $10. But... I'd have to be 21. :(

I've been there so long my manager pulled me aside one day and told me, to my face, that she would hands down give me the position if it weren't for my age. :P

So I'm screwed struggling to make triple digits for the time being. I was thinking of getting certified as a lifeguard in the spring and then being a lifeguard along the job I have now. OR I might just get another job at another store. MY goal is to earn enough to move out by the end of next year. But either way I feel like I'm stuck doing stupid part time jobs until I turn 21. :P

At least I know I'm not alone. That makes me feel better lol.

I work as a "assistante d'éducation", that is to say a kind of teacher's assistant, in an elementary school. I am responsible of the library and of the musicians pupils.
